Switching out front brakes on the 3W and have a local guy wanting the Buick setup coming off.
They are a working complete system with chrome backing plates and 90 fin drums.
Don't want to kill him but the Wilwood kit wasn't cheap.
    What's a fair price? 20181229_122215.jpg 20181113_154521.jpg 20181113_154527.jpg

Hope he is planning to use more suitable wheels (backspacing) if he installs them. The pictured install has to be one of the worst cases of tire scrub radius I have ever seen.

I'm planning on using the Ford with Buick drums on my '32 with '35 wheels. What are the wires you have on yours? I don't want mine to look like those.

Simply read the first sentence of my post. I allowed for the possibility that there may be some variables in the new install. Just think it is more likely than not that the appeal of the Buick brake setup is that it is ready to bolt on an early Ford spindle. Hence the wheels are the likely primary variable to consider for best geometry.

Have you measured the drums with a brake drum Mic?

Thanks for pointing that out however I am well aware of the issue even though it is done so frequently. I've seen worse using spacers.
That is the exact reason for my change.
Although I have to think a 6"-7" width wheel to cover the drum would not be appealing on a '32 Highboy.
The wheels are 16"×4.5" Vintiques with 5.00x16 Excelsiors .
I have not measured the drums.
    Just removed today.

the 90s are not worth as much as 45s with good reason .

    What is the reason?
I know 45 fin are older than 90 fin but other than appearance, is there an advantage?

I believe they are repopping the Buick drums for about $100 ea. I could be wring, but I swear I saw them.

  15. I'd like to see those. $100 is damn cheap.

I dont see what relevance a new Wilwood kit has to do with what this Buick setup is worth....but here is what I see. Cool old chrome backing plates, 90 fin drums....$250-$350. Had the drums been the proper wide spaced, 45 fin style I'd bump it up another couple hundred. I might be spoiled being in socal with the amount of parts still out here...but I walk right past those 90 fin drums at the swaps...

I really doubt there is any functional advantage to either fin count. But I find it curious that the 45 fin version is so revered and the 90 fin is shunned. I suppose it is simply a matter of personal taste and the majority seem to prefer the 45 fin drum and are willing to pay more. Makes for 90 fin drums being something of a bargain at the swap meets and salvage yards.

In spite of my comments about the scrub radius, your 3 window is a beautiful car.
