Wanted to have a peek at my brake shoes today and when I got the finned drum off the front and the seal wasn’t in great shape.
    1. Should this seal be flat with the hub?
    2. Anyone know a part number? It’s about 2.5” OD.

1940 Ford backing plates with these drums.

I'd check the other side and see if the number is still on it. On the other hand what hubs are you running the drums on as they aren't on Buick hubs and in that case the drum doesn't mean squat it is what the hub came off and what spindle you have.

It's probably going to be a 471316 National that supersedes a 5976 national if you have round back spindles and 40 hubs.

I think you were right with that seal number. Measurements look like they’re probably the same, but of course nobody has one today. I’ll find out tomorrow at some point when it comes in.
Not really sure on the specifics with the car. This is how I got it. Truth be told, this is the first time in about four years that I’ve had the front wheel off.
