I'm using Buick drums with 40 Ford hubs on the outside of the drums does anyone know which studs have enough serration to go through the hub and drum? I've searched Dorman but the one I found just barely hits the hub.
40 hubs do not work well. I would just bolt the hubs to the drums and ***emble to check fit with the backing plates. They will interfere with 40 style plates. They may be OK with F-250 plates
Read the posts in this Tech Archive: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166339 FWIW, don't recall any combo using '40 hubs on the outside...
Clark's right they are 42-48 and I didn't even think of looking in the Tech Archive but I did look in the search box. Dorman and Napa numbers both in the Tech Archive!
FWIW, I put my hubs on the inside of the drum. I turned the hubs so they fit and register to the buick drum. I think it looks a lot cleaner than putting the hub on the outside. Then you just use longer studs.
Nope! Not even close. I should mention that I am using Wilson finned backing plates, but I dont think that should matter.
I started out with 40 Hubs, but when I machined them to fit the Buick drum I hit some "raspbeerys"..............went to 42/48 Hubs, machined them with no problems. If you put the Hubs on the outside don't forget to machine a back-up ring to go on the inside of the drum.........this is a must when you are running the Hubs on the outside. You can use Grade 8 bolts (thread the back-up ring) and you will never have any problems and if you ever cross thread one all you need to do is get another grade 8 bolt.
