I have a 1951 Chevy with a ruined six and stock running gear. I own a 1963 Buick engine and trans
(401 & Dynaflow) Has anyone got any idea how hard this swap would be?
I am tired of seeing SBC engines in these cars.;)

  2. Well the nailhead is longer than the sbc, so I'm not sure if you will have to move the raidiator to the other side of the support or not. I know with my 53 Chevy and a 327 I had to use the short water pump and there wasn't much room in front or back. I think it can be done, it just depends on your skills. I think it would be cool myself. One of my favorite swaps I ever saw was a 53/54 Chevy with a Pontiac OHV 6...had to do a double take on that one!

The steering will be a problem and something will have to move there. The 53 is a tight fit for a SBC around the box. You can shift the engine a bit right if necessary, but I'd go for it anyway-that would be a great combination.

Somewhere in one of the little Car Crafts or Rod & Customs is an article detailing this very swap. It'll probably only take me a few months to find it.

In the 60's it used to be a commen swap in 55-56 Chevies. in earlier cars you will need a rear sump pan and possably have starter/steering interfearance. Good luck you can do it.
