Going to look at a 55 Buick special 2 dr sedan today for the wife. The guy is selling it for a buddy and knows the engine in it is a nailhead but didn't know the size. Should I ***ume this being a "special" it is a 264ci or did they put 322's in specials? Also if it is a 264 can I get speed parts? The car is complete and from New Mexico and appears to be rust free but is there some problem areas I should look for? Thanks.....Mike
The '54 and '55 Specials came with a 264. A good little nailhead, just not a performer. I would check the Dynaflow ****** for leaks, a problem when they age. Some guys hate the Dynaflow, some guys like 'em. Speed parts are around, but not as plentiful as the SBC. Tri carb manifolds show up on eBay often. Good luck, Frank
Check for rust out around the headlights and the floorpans, probably the most common spots on any old car. If that one doesn't work out for you, there's a rock solid '56 Buick 2dsd around here that is a solid, original paint driver. I could give you the guy's number.
