What kind of transmission can be put behind a 1957 Buick Nailhead? Is it possible to put a turbo 400 chevrolet?

Yes with an adapter. Bendtson trtansmissions has them and I believe Phoenix transmissions out of weatherford Texas have them also.

Or a Sp400 or St400 from a full size Nailhead equipped Buick. Needs a bushing the flexplate, machine the hole in the flexplate larger, and drill and tap one hole in the block. Pretty easy...

    And Nailhead is one word.

Of course, if it's still in a 57 Buick, you will have to do something about the torque tube and rearend as well........if it's going into something else, nevermind me..

yep and that's been covered in depth in a few other posts....

early 60's full size Buick center section will bolt into the stock diff... then just fab some NASCAR style ladder bars...

Check with Wilcap too for adapters, but I agree, that damn torque tube is the pits. Perhaps Wilcap or Bendtsen' or whomever will come up with an adapter for 400's to fit the torque tube ball someday, HINT HINT.

If you're going adapter and open driveline you could put an O/D trans in. A 200R4 would be a better fit than a 700R4. Less tunnel work. And let's not forget the x-frame. I'm just not a fan of the adapters, that's a lot of torques to put on an aluminum spacer. Especially when you can pick up a ****** that bolts up to the bellhousing. 65-66 ST400 and SP400 are the better, but '64 will do in a pinch.
