Buick nailhead starter question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flatordead, Jul 12, 2010.

  1. I will have a 58 Buick special here next week and it needs a new starter. I ordered one and got a new one from cardone. It has a GM 3683S number on it and looks complete different then the original one. It does not have the flange with the two holes like the old one. Instead of this it ha staggered holes just like any Chevy sb starter. So what is the clue here? Has the 57/58 364 block holes for the staggered bolt pattern too?

  2. And as far as I remember the Buick nailhead has the starter on the driver side, the one they did send me looks more like to be mounted on the p***enger side.
    Here is a picture.

I'll bet they sent you a starter for an'85 instead of '58! From the tiny pic of my iPhone, that looks like your typical sbc starter, are they the same for the other gm v8's?

And yeah, the nailheads have starters on the drivers side.
