Running one because I can't find a manual adapter. Heard lots of good things about them, I was just wondering exactly what they are and how they are good or not? Also can you get shift kits for them, I have heard that you can't?Mine is out of a 65 electra.
I bought one from Poston but it's not running yet. He has higher stall convertors as stock is a small difference. I got a 4000/1600. Price starts climbing after that. Current thinking is high stall convertors are much more efficient than they used to be so no real advantage to switch pitch.
I ran 1 in my Henry J for years. It is the same as a Turbo 400. I converted mine so I could run a 10 inch converter. I believe you just need to update the front pump. Then you can run any turbo 400 converter you want. If you want to run the switch pitch I think a 400 shift kit will work. Better check though.
The pump, stator support ( pump cover) and input shaft are different for a switch pitch. Splines for the converter stator are located differently on the stator support of the switch pitch. Valve body is no different from 1966 up.....
You can convert the SP400 to a regular Th400 by using the giuts from a TH. No Need for the SP. I also posted that we are finshing the manual bellhousing for the 364, 401 and 425. Available by the end of the month. I also just released the trans adapter for buicks. I retail them for 399. but HAMB members get 10% off. I do this because I dig this stuff ya know. Otherwise my kit would be 500.00 like the rest of them. Take care guys and love them nailheads
I have the SP Turbo 400 behind my SBC. We put all the Buick stuff in a Chevrolet 400 case. Works great. They make 2 different size converters. Mine is the smaller converter and cut . It is 800/2800 approx. Some later 400 Chevrolet cases cannot be changed over, according to my transmission guru. Mine is a 1968 one. I like it so well in the 32 Roadster that I am looking for the stuff to do one for my 32 ( long term project ) coupe. .
