Does anyone have the dimensions of a 66 Buick TH400 from the front of bellhousing to trans mount and to the rear of the transmission? Have been planning my A with the TH350 that is in the garage, but a recent acquisition has generated a change in direction. Can't get at the Buick to measure the trans, acquired it just before 2 blizzards rolled through here and car is now burried in snow and will have to wait till it melts out in the spring. Thanks for the help and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. Canuck
There are 3 tailhousings the "c" measurement is........ 1) 26 and 15/16" 2) 27 and 15/16" 3) 27 and 21/32"
But. what does a 66 Riveara have???? 10 to 15 degrees below and a 4' drift that has the car buried don't make it fun trying to find out what the car has.
The second and third measurement is SO CLOSE.it doesn't matter. I have never owned a 66 Rivi.....but most of the Buick Turbo 400's I have seen.......use the second tailhousing. Yours being a 66....it should have the switch-pitch convertor in it which is great. I have Buick Turbo 400 switch pitch stuff in my Chevrolet Turbo 400 case..... Look at the kick down switch plug on the transmission and see if it has two spades..... 1 for the down shift and the other for the variable convertor.... .
On by the way........it is 70 and the sun is shining here in the Southland...... IT is Roadster weather here.........
Here's a photo (posted on the Hamb cl***ified ads) of a Buick Turbo 400 with the short tail housing. That would be the first measurement........or # 1) My Turbo 400 was a short (Chevrolet case) but I converted it to the long......I installed anothe tail housing and output shaft. The longer one is 4 and 1/2 inches longer overall BUT the mount is back only 1 inch....... .
I yanked a TH400 from a '68 Riv and it was a short-shaft trans if that helps any. Best way to tell-- crawl under and look.
Only problem with crawling under and checking is the car is buried after 2 blizzards have rolled thru here in the last couple of days. Just trying to figure out what changes I will have to make to my frame to accomodate this monster.
