I am looking for any pix of the 79-80 Buick V-6 that has been used in a streetrod or on the drag strip. Still working on the '28 essex and need some ideas for the exhaust and set up. Dan dmarx@bellsouth.net
Looks like a terd in ths picture--I'll look for some from back when the truck looked worth damn. Not sure of the year, but its was a punched odd fire 231 pulled from a pro-street 48 anglia and dropped into this truck. 2 speed powerglide. Ran like a scalded dog in the 1/8 (stoplight to stoplight could run with 5.0). Not so good above 60 or so.
I don't have any good pics of the exhaust system to share, but in 1980 I installed one these in a new Datsun pickup. Because of tight space in the engine compartment I couldn't use the stock exhaust arrangement. What I ended up doing was routing the exhaust from the driver's side down, forward, under and up to the front of the right manifold. I cut off the the exhaust flange from the rear of the right manifold and welded it to the bottom front of the right side. Not only did this fit better in the space available, it eliminated running all the exhaust gasses from the left side through the right. Only the right bank fed into the right manifold and both went up through the turbo feed pipe. I ran the big tube exiting the turbo down the right fenderwell and under the truck. This was the last, and best, of three mini trucks I built with Buick V6 poer starting in 1970 with a '66 Datsun pickup and a 225 cid odd-fire. In those days, in the midwest, NOBODY was doing that and it made for a really fun 'sleeper'. Even by '80 when I did the last one, there still weren't many. Ray
