Hi I have broken the U-joint of my 54 Buick Special, with manual transmision. I have found a 57 NOS one on the net, that seems identical to my 54 in the picture, but I'm not sure if it will fit in my 54 or not, anyone knows if the Buick U-joints are the same within diferent years? Anybody knows a good place to buy Buick u-joint on the net. Thanks. That's the picture of the 57 buick u-joint I have found, that seems identical to the 54 one.
According to my Hollander's Interchange manual, the U-joints are different. 1955 Buick Special w/ manual trans. interchanges 1953-1955 Special (manual trans only), part #5665608. 1957 Special w/ manual trans. is a one year U-joint, part #5671108 Hollander's doesn't say what the difference is.
The '54 to '55 Special (and earlier) used the smaller Buick/Olds transmission while the '57 to '60? used the larger Roadmaster style transmission with the six bolt cover. Frank
According to both the Hollander Interchange manual and my '29-'64 Buick Parts manual, the '57 Model 40 (Special) manual transmission U-joint was a one-year part. The part number, 5671108, isn't listed for any other year.
I took mine to a machinest, and replaced all the parts broken. I wish I would have taken pictures, sorry... See if one in your town can help you make those parts.. Have you tried www.oldbuickparts.com
Thanks to all for the info, I will try to find the correct one. I tried http://www.oldbuickparts.com/ but they didn't have any of these. Anybody knows any other good place to find it?
I doubt it, but does the buick ujoint interchange with a 53-54 chevy ujoint? if so I have one. Also If you bought that '57 one, I maybe be interested in buying from you. I'm realizing how many one-year only parts there are for our '57 and it sucks.
