If you don't want to spring for a set from Poston or T/A, get a set of earlier 70's or late 60's and have some fun with paint.
Did you see this? I think these are kinda hard to find, but they are kool. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128471
***** to find a set that someone wants to part with, but look for Kenne Bell covers i know they's hell to find cause i was lookin for a set for a while 455 **** is always sc**** tho
these are on my olds 455...not as hard to come by and i've seen some look really sweet with the negative spaces painted.
Thanks this is all great! I saw a set of offy that will fit the olds 455,do you think the'll fit the buick 455?
unfortunately it seems not, according to the pics of them that i just looked up. i know olds have 8 bolts holding them on but the buicks only seem to have 5. there should be plenty of nice ones out there though...it is a pretty popular engine.
I know a guy that has a 455 in his 1940 Ford, with nice valve covers, it looks a little pro-street though. i'll try to find some pics for ya
The covers that skajaquada shows are very nice. I believe they're available in black or as-cast. I have a set of these and have been thinking I'd do a wrinkle black on them and buff the "Buick" and the horizontal lines. The pic below shows the Kenne-Bell covers on my 32. They came in as-cast aluminum or the black wrinkle as you see. Adapting a different make of cover like on skajaquada's 455 Olds may be easy to do. I was going to run Moroso billet - and welded - rocker covers from a 460 Ford on the 31's 455 Buick. I went so far as to buy a set of 460 Ford rocker cover gaskets for comparitive purposes. It wouldn't be hard to do. Some 1/4" aluminum plate (6061 T6) cut into an adapter is easy and commonly done in some venues. A few flathead allens and you'd be in business far as bolting the adapter to the Buick. Studs in the adapter plate would do it for retaining the rocker cover. You could go so far as to adapt a stamped steel cover from a different make, making sure the cover has the other cars name on it. One of my thoughts along these lines was to find a set of Packard rocker covers and do a little sheet metal work - gaining some height for the roller rockers along the way - so the base of the cover would be Buick and the top Packard.
C9, nice lookin mill. . . thems the same covers i got on the willys mill, but mine are "as cast" . . . i kinda like the wrinkle black look tho. . . hmmmmmm
