build a chevy 305, why not???

    305s are fine. Mine had 60cc chambers....might wanna stay away from the later tbi "swirl port heads", they tend to run out oomph at about 4500rpm.

    Stay mellow with the cam, I was running a 282/282 (old 'vette L82 350 grind), and could have made more power by stepping back to the 272/282 from Summit. With the 282, it sounded nasty, but was just a bit too much cam. Nah, no such thing as too much cam - just not enough motor!

    Sure, you'll lose a bit of low end, but probably not as much as you think. It still has the long stroke of a 350.

    If it's free and not in need of an entire rebuild (maybe just an overhaul), go for it! If it needs to be completely done, look around for a 350 and save a few bucks on pistons and rings and such.

    That's the one! :) Always wondered why GM detuned it so drastically in 86. Other stuff, like computer and burn-off module was a real CF, the 727 computer in 86 was a leap ahead.
