I think what was starting the fires was the coil. swapped it for a stock model A coil and no more fires.

Now i have no spark. well, i had it on one attempt to crank, but several attempts before and after yielded no spark.

    hmmm...

edit- yes, wired as stock diagram suggests, Brent.

I'd check all the things that run off that junction. Coil, relay, etc.

so, no 'potato' as Nosurf says, but i did get 'po, po, po...'

electricals seem sorted, no fires. it was a bad generator cutout.

and, it's trying to fire, but i haven't got it to start quite yet. it's bleeding a lot of fuel, so maybe the float is stuck and there's too much? i dunno. i'll look into that next.

    progress anyway.

5...4...3...ignition...all systems firing...2...1...houston, we have lift off, the space shuttle silver city has launched...

'course, i am a technological troglodyte, and i have no method of video proof. but if you understood my level of frustration until now, you know that i wouldn't lie about this...

yeehaw. see you on the shore next weekend!

Kevin does have an iphone, but we were just too dang giddy. we got his speedster fired tonight too. it was a heck of a night for victory.

becky said we can take vid in the morning. so we'll come full circle in about 8 hours.

had to pull the muffler off cuz it was apparently jammed full of mouse nests, and the downpipe was glowing red from being blocked up. once the car cooled down, i cut off the muffler and twisted the downpipe out the side.

a few minutes ago i shut it off for the night after letting it warm up and idle for probably 10 minutes. then i fired it up for beck while on the phone and it fired on half a crank. vroom.

i can't tell you how happy i am, but i'll try. around 1978 i got a new Huffy Thunder Road bike for Christmas. it's kinda like that.
