Ive been reading on the main board about old and deleted build threads and the many and varied reasons why people stop posting or slow down. My own thread about my 49 has been going for some time now, but i probably could update it a little more often. I often feel like the things I have done are kind of minor and of not much interest, like the rear upper shock mounts I did yesterday. Having said that, there does seem to be a regular bunch of guys who just keep going with there builds... How do you guys stay motivated or bounce back after setbacks? Does your build thread help?
I'm the kind of guy that when reading a book might get bored and skip to the end so I know how the story ends. One can't do that on a project like we have, so I just keep plugging along to see how it ends. (I'm to stubborn to quit)
I'd be delighted to hear about your shock mounts. My build has spanned 11 years so far... How do I keep going? Eli was kind enough to do a Photoshop of my end vision which helps ALOT. I try to take each task as a single unit. If I dwell on the total amount of work needed I think I could easily become overwhelmed and quit. I tried to get the truck on the road as soon as possible in the project. It was registered in 2015 and we've put 11,000 miles on it since then. This may not be possible everywhere. NH required a state safety inspection in 2015, but it was pretty minimal for a 1941 model. (and the shop loved the truck which didn't hurt).. I have very little experience driving a cl***ic vehicle. The closest I come is my 1957 Willys CJ-5 but driving the COE around is a complete hoot. Even early on when the body was still rough and the stance way too high, the comments, appreciation and interest was constant and priceless... Now if only I can get over the separation anxiety of sending pieces to the paint shop.
I see a common trait here, we are to stubborn to quit...... I've built a few hot rods over the years, in hindsight now they almost seem easy and pretty simple compared to building a COE. So as I said, we are stubborn, gotta be to build one I think. I also have a picture that someone put on a COE thread on the HAMB many years ago, im kinda using that as my motivation for the final overall look and style. Just adding my own style to that..... Life of course also slows things down sometimes, but that never stops me from doing little stuff or planning and thinking about whats next But, I sure am looking forward to just driving it someday
