The reality is for every 99 started there's only one finished. And it's pretty rare they're decent looking. Most look like something from bizzaro world. Not trying to knock the home-mades in this thread, they represent unusual outcomes IMO. (they look great)

Here's the secret to finding cheap tin in good shape. DON'T BUILD A FORD! Seriously, there are GREAT deals to be had on cars that have the same basic silhouette as the popular fords, but a different set of emblems. From 20 feet, most people think my chrysler is a 32 ford. The body cost $500, 99% rust free.

Trust me, you'll have plenty of opportunity to metalform. There's a lot of wood in those cars to replace with metal.

Vintage tin has character you can't buy or build.

I seem to remember a thread a year or two back from an Aussie Hamber who built a really nice Model A body from scratch using simple tools. Everyone praised it. Part of being an artist is not giving a rats *** what others think. Just do it.

A friend of mine has built his own Coupe body and now is in the process of building a complete 26/27 T Roadster from scratch: www.mowercountycustoms.com
Click on showroom and then Custom Coupe.

  9. I say this in a "yeah thats nice" setting where it looks like your ugly sister that takes it in the *** then gulps it down with gusto, she may be accepted but it aint right.

You're too kind. It more or less resembles that same sister. Only after she got picked up for streetwalking in Reno after a three day heroin binge- you know, when you have to tell yourself "Hey, maybe jail will be good for her..."

    Hey,
You can build anything you want to. It just won't happen on the first try. No one who has ever built a *****'n one off body did it on the first try. Go for it. It doesn't matter how it turns out, or whether anyone on this site or anywhere else likes it, or even if you like it on the first 50 tries. It is the journey along the way that matters, and if you go for it you never know where you might end.
    Have fun.

Fellow HAMBer "Smokey" built this RPU from a model A cowl and tank...had to remanufacture the bottom of the rusty cowl and then fabricated all the rest of the car including the frame. He used a shrinker/stretcher, an anvil and a bead roller. This photo of it was taken by me at the HAMB drags in '04 or '05...

im currently making my own body, but i already guessed that metal is a bit out of league with the tools and talent needed so i'm making it out of fibergl*** but the earlier comment is still right, u will go through 15 and it may or may not be the right one, i made one side for the mold that i was kinda of iffy about. while i was stewwing on whether or not it was a good idea, my brother ended up chopping it up (without my permission) for his tractor T, so i'm back to square one myself.but i would love to hear more about this project.

It ain't easy, but after those 15 tries to get it right, you'll have something you can really be proud of + the skill andknowledge to do it again. I've fabbed a few pieces I couldn't find anywhere, and although it took me a few tries (not 15) I'm damn proud of having had done it myself. So good luck.

Start with an Cutl*** ch***i and you get something like this.:)
It´s easy to critizise, but hard to do it better yourself.
    And taste is very personal..
Personally i think this car is a waste of time.
