When I was a little feller (13 or 14 helping my dad and granddaddy rebuild the front end on my ‘63 1/2 Falcon my first car) dad always said leave the jack under the car with the jack stands in place as an insurance policy just incase they fail. Well it was time to set it on the ground and one of the rivets that I chiseled off the upper ball joints was hiding behind one of the floor jack’s wheels and I ripped the bottom tank off of the radiator. So pop and I pulled the radiator and he repaired the tank and soldered it back on for me and we put it back together and all was good or so we thought. Apparently the transmission cooler that was inside of the bottom tank got heated up enough to let the water into the transmission and radiator so needless to say whenever dad drove it to and from the shop to get the front end alignment done the transmission was smoked so to speak. We had to tow it to the transmission shop and have the 2 speed rebuilt which took forever because of the age and lack of parts. I don’t know what the total cost was for the entire flub up I created but it wasn’t cheap and I learned a valuable lesson. Thankfully I had a dad and granddaddy that loved me and loved the fact that I had a major interest in building old cars and owning them so they didn’t kill me right off the bat. I really miss those days but boy the things you do when you’re building a car…..

Lowered cars definitely have there disadvantages around floor jacks even when they are down. I have 2 and the lowest one is the one to raise the car first.

When I was putting new floors in the Studebaker I inadvertently lowered from the floor jacks but...I'd left one floor jack under the floor, it pushed it up a few inches:( I was able to get it pushed back to it's proper location:)
Back in the early 80's I'd just painted the 67 ElCamino and somehow when I backed it off of the ramps (boy...it's hard to remember details that far back) it bounced a little and crinkled the quarter right behind the rear wheels:(

I had a 3-car accident and they were all mine. Left the brake off the 28 Mercury which rolled into the 54 Plymouth that rolled into my semi-restored customized pedal car. Luckily only very minor damage.

Working on a '33 Tudor I used to have; I found the same jack I used to lift it before didn't clear the newly installed front fenders when I went to lower it.

I kicked the jack stands out from under a vette I was replacing the rear end on many, many years ago. I didn't get one far enough away and lowered the car on it. It sliced through my quarter panel like a knife through*****er. I puked. Then mopped it up and fixed it.

  9. I did this with my C10 last summer, except mine slid off and hit the carport upright. Big dent in the side of the bed, killed the side trim too.

Welcome to the club. I closed the garage door on the open trunk lid on the sedan. Garage door won. It’s a lousy feeling. Snowman ⛄️

So I took a few days off and was back on it today. Finished putting the interior in and did some odds and ends. Getting my plates tomorrow so looking forward to my first drive this weekend. Still bothers me but it will be fixed.
