With the price of 55-56-57 Cameo's pickup's I am thinking of putting one together from a short bed, stepside, big window. Do they make everything for the bed ? I am seeing most if not all of the cab panels. I parted out several Cameo's in the 1980's like an idiot.
Cameos have all but disappeared in this neck o' the woods... Rare birds! Someone advertised they were doing a run of fibergl*** Cameo beds. Don't remember who...
Having had a '56 and a '58 Cameo, I learned Cameo specific parts are hard to come by. The bumpers/bumperettes, tail lights, spare tire cover, the bed side chrome ('57 & '58) are not reproduced. Years ago someone cast the tail lights in aluminum, not sure if that's still being done. The bed sides are/were available. If you can find any of the Cameo specific parts, be prepared to pay up.
I'm thinking that you can buy most of the pieces to do the conversion from the aftermaket suppliers but remember that a few years ago a couple of pieces weren't reproduced then. I'd be searching and making out my shopping list cameo bedsides - Google Search and see what I could find and what might be a deal killer.
Buy the most complete Cameo that you can afford. Its about the only way you will get the tail lights, rear bumper etc. If you do find parts separate the asking price will be sky high.If you have a step side just enjoy it.
