So here we are, the custom cast plenum design manifold would not allow the carbs to be aligned in the “correct” orientation, so I have been running on a single pot since the head went back on. The plenum works well enough that there is no noticeable imbalance running just the one carb

Still have the desire to run the duals, so the dual manifold was cut up, reconfigured, and welded back together. No longer a plenum design but will allow the carbs to be oriented and spaced properly. Hoping to get it back together in the next couple of weeks. Last thing to do is build some venturi reducers to put the carbs on a diet, lookin for about 100 cfm each

I hope yur right! So far all of my mods are holding up nicely, it’s just the insanely crappy design of the cylinder head that keeps me up at night. Only way to see if it breaks is to drive it!

Ok, your machining skills are light years ahead of mine, I'm trying to understand what I'm looking at. The replacement valve seat SOULD HAVE been cut for equal material in 360 degrees, NOT using the valve hole in the head, correct? Then the valve hole could be plugged and a hole matching the new seat could be drilled and the rocker adjusted to match contact.

Sooooo… this head design is crappier than that. The port is actually larger diameter than the valve opening on this head, rather than a smooth flow like we are all used to. Additionally, there is no water jacket between the combustion chamber floor and the port. With only a 1/4” thick web of iron to set a hard seat into, they broke thru as seen in your pic. Moving the stem location would not have helped. Only bribing a cast iron welder would have helped this damn thing!

I ended up machining a stepped hard seat to create a full circle contact at the base to correct the settling. If this doesn’t work… next step is begging for bribe money:eek:

Oh yeah, don’t want to mess with the custom machined rocker geometry

I've been burned several times by "professionals" who did sub-standard work on my junk and either ruined it or required extensive rework.

Been a while since the last update… got it up and runnin before summer and all is well again. The reworked dual manifold is working fantastically! The venturi reducers did the trick also. Idle is good, transition is good, just a bit of lean miss when shifting into top gear after winding out mid range. Oh yeah, the 2 speed rear end shifts with a dog clutch so not much time for fuel to flood the accelerator wells, no suprise on the high shift miss

    Hey @Kevin Pharis
    Simply magnificent!
    Indeed perfection cannot be rushed!
I think my friend @Hitchhiker would be very impressed at how all of this turned out!
    Thanks from Dennis.

This AA-B choke horn looks great Kevin...thanks for continuing to build out the list of available parts for these wonderful Winfield carburetors.

And after much pestering for far too long, I finally started up a website. Not much on there yet, but trying to add something every couple of days. Now I have to start taking better pics:rolleyes:
