I've been looking for a solid straight axle for my Henry J g***er project & what I thought I had isn't going to work. So with this being said I've been thinking about building a straight axle myself. My question is this, have any of you'll built your own straight axle? How hard is this? Is there some plans somewhere I can look at to build one? What all is involved?
Search the Hamb forum there are some good threads on this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300171&highlight=build+your+own+tube+axle My 51 Henry J I had back in the early 80's which was built in the early 60's used a 1948 Ford p***enger car front axle and transverse spring and split bones. 48 ford crossmember was modded to fit the Henry J's frame to mount up the transverse spring/axle setup. Fit nice.
