Meyer...Great job there, I also have tall sons...6 of 'em! Glad to see you used a T spring on the rear... For the best in 'height reduction', I would recommend reversing the rear eyes, and a subtle reshape of the spring: Just bend the 4 leaves slightly more than they are, on the 'elbows'. (right at the inner bends, bottoms of the 'hump'. Do the leaves one at a time, on a press, fitting them as you go) Come down approximately 1.5", that plus the eyes' reverse will bring it down nicely. (not too much, remember it's a sedan, and passengers in the rear seat will add up to 300#+. Don't want a 'tire-rubber') Send your '36 axle to Sid in Oklahoma, 3.5" drop will do the trick. (Google "Dropped Axle", Sid's one of the first advertisers)
I want to get the engine and transmission in and see how things sit, then tweak height, maybe. I actually built a jig to drop the front axle. I have done about 5 of them over the last year, so I can do mine if I elect to. I think the engine weight may drop the front enough and the rear may need to come down. I will adjust the rear spring as you mentioned. It has more than 4 leaves in it now though, more like 6 or 7.
Took the plunge today and ordered the walker radiator, one of the last big $$$ purchases. Got the engine mounts tacked in according to Tardel, we will see how it all lines up and if I need to move it. Stock fuel pump tower is tight, see below. Not sure what to do about that. My son and I are about to start a similar project. his is a 31 pickup and mine is a 28 sports coupe. Ordered Tardels book and following your build should be a good start. Thanks' for sharing.
Moved engine back 3/4" and I think I'm close now. Grill insert from brookville doesn't fit the brookville shell very well. It's too tight but I think I can massage the shell and get it in. Thanks again to all for the advice and help. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Can you fit a fan on that engine? I'd suggest figuring that stuff out before you weld up any crossmembers.
The generator I am using is a 39 with the fan mounted on the front of it. Perfect clearance. It is being converted to 12v now. I'll post a pic when back from shop
Ok I need some help on steering. Dropped axle. The stock arm was not close to a fit, even if I had heated it and pushed it way down. You can see two speedway options in the pic. The one held up rubs too. The one on the floor does not bolt up cleanly at all. Any ideas?
