@31Vicky with a hemi @gimpyshotrods I'm rethinking four carbs. Runner + port volume should be nearly the same as the individual cylinder volume, correct? The one thing I am concerned with is the lack of accelerator pumps on the Mikunis, whereas the Keihin has them. Maybe it's nothing to be concerned with, given they worked beautifully on the motorcycle they came off of. Any input is appreciated. Thanks for the replies so far.

These are two pics of my sons work on a OT engine swap that will have a turbo.Same concept,1 1/4" SS Tubing and elbows Took him alot of time to cope each one to fit turbo(or carb) flange and get them all the same size and smooth. Real simple carbs,we dealt with those on our microsprint. Your challenge is getting all that plumbing evened up.Please post some pictures of the progress!! Fedco

  8. Generally A 40 with an accelerator pump is good for 500 cc single cyl or 1000 cc twin with split pulses. That's going to be 240 cubic inches with 4 @ 40mm carbs on split pulses.

    Is that enough carb?

I think it'll be close enough, since this engine isn't built for high RPM's. I may try the Mikuni's first. If they don't work out, I can always cut them off and try something else.

Just want to add something here. In high school one of my buddies built a Harley Pan. He adapted a side draft Carter (YH?). The accelerator pump made a WHOLE new motor out of it. That thing would just plain fly when you twisted the throttle.
I don't know if that helps or not but it sure made an impression on me. First bike I ever rode.

  11. Ebbsspeed, did the exhaust headers ever come to be?

Balance tube is important for smooth idle and low speed running. It costs practically nothing so why not have one. To my knowledge all factory multi carb setups have some kind of balance tube at least on cars.
