I decided to make a gas medal because I wanted to maintain the stock one. At first I tried making a device that would have the ball that pops into the back of the stock pedal welded to a bolt that was loosely through a lever that would pull the oem cable. That felt unsafe so I made a whole pedal assembly. Here is part of the process [IMG][IMG][IMG]

This is the lever that pills the cable. I drilled a hole in a bolt and welded it to it. The cable would go through and the but will hold the cable tight [IMG][IMG]

Scratch that. I didn't like the way it felt. Pretty frustrated about spending so much time on it. I'll be using the late model truck one. In hind sight I guess it doesn't matter what the pedal looks like. I will save this thing for a GoKart I plan to build when my son is older

Drew, everybody here has a box of ideas that didn't work. It's just part of the fun and learning process. Keep at it!

Thanks for that Tommy! The thing looked awesome… The finish was pretty high-quality, but I just didn't like the way it felt under my foot… I think it's because there was too much of an angle between the mounting surface on the firewall and where the pedal actually went on the toeboard… in a different vehicle with a shallower toeboard, the design would've been perfect. Thanks for the encouragement

Dang brother, you are cruising! Keep on it! I was supposed to be in MI this past weekend to get my motor in, but some circumstances arose, and I had to reschedule for the weekend of the 23rd. Not a huge letdown, as the weather was crap this past weekend (low 30s) and hoping in a couple weeks for some ACTUAL Spring weather. Plus a good buddy from Nashville (one of my few close gearhead friends) will happen to be in town, so he can help. Stay posted!

I'll be following in the meantime!

I spent a lot of time working on my custom brake pedal assembly… Everything is coming together awesome. Here are some pictures… Note thecustom Clevis cause I didn't have one that was the right length. Soon I will post pictures of what it looks like inside the car… You could kind of see it in the picture above, but I've modified the arm sense, and begun building a pedal that will take a rubber cover from a 1957 "power break" pad

Tonight was a huge step forward and a confidence booster. I fired up the motor for the first time. Is sounds amazing. There are a few issues I have to sort through. I had the clamp bolt for the distributor less than finger tight and I notice the distributor seems to want to move up and down as the engine cranks. Freaked me but with the bolt tightened down finger tight it doesn't do it and it doesn't feel like there is an obstruction.

The other thing is the Holley carb leaks. The sight hole on the back bowl ooooooozed gas out. Probly the float. I DOUBT it's fuel pressure with the low end OEM replacement pump I have. It's like a $12 pump. Either way, it fired up immediately and sounded like a beast.

  11. Good news, eh ? Do you have a stall converter on it, if so, what RPM ?

While I am impressed how far you've come with with your project, I am disappointed that you sacrificed the quality of the fabrication just to meet some sort of deadline.

Found the build thread. I've seen many of your other posts on specific topics.
    Really a great looking car.

No photos but brake lines are in, brakes totally assembled except the parking brake which is actually giving me massive trouble. Can't find cables that will work for what I want

For this who were interested in my project (and also for those who were downright nasty and discouraging) as said my deadline was my son's first birthday party. That was may 22. The first road test was the Friday before; 5/20. His actual birthday. Here is a video (I didn't know my wife took until last night) of its first real drive: 9:15 am the Day of the party

AWESOME brother. It is certainly a great, and also terrifying experience when you get on the road for the first time!

Yea man. It was before the car was even done. It was running funny. Ended up finding a random accel pump spring that was EXTRA just hanging out under the float in the bowl in a brand new carb! Anyway it was running funny, soft brakes, no lights, no hood, and I just decided: what's the worst that can happen!? Lord help! And pulled out of the driveway hahaha it was such, such a rush. Can't pay for that feeling... Gotta just earn it. Now she rides and runs about perfectly. There many stories not fit for a forum. Hopin to park next to you and shake your hand some day, or else we'll chat about it in the next life. Either way, wild ride.

A 1947 Buick fastback may have found me....

Not much to be said. The steering gear sucks and causes an unenjoyable ride around 58-62 and it has to go. Going to either do:

An Astro van steering gear and leave my stock front end
    A jaguar complete front suspension
    A mustang 2 compete suspension
A 80's cavalier rack and pinion with my stock front end.

    Really want P/S.

Other than that and a Harmonic issue, she drives like a dream, although quite warm. Probly gone about 300 miles so far at least.
