This is like Civil Engineering in the USAF was... gotta have thick skin to be here! Lots of people from all walks of life with different size budgets and ideas. There's gonna be some disagreement no matter what! Just ignore the way negative stuff, consider the constructive criticism (sometimes hard to tell those two apart!), and build what you want the way you want it anyway. There might be a few "I told ya so's" in the end, but it's your car, your money, your fun or mistakes. Enjoy the build and ride! If something does end up not the way you expected just ask for advice and figure out how to correct/change it!

  10. this thing is looking awesome so far. i have a 63 2 door sedan that is being built with some help from me. (i say that, because i don't have the skills, time or tools to devote to this kind of build.) it's going to be more street freak than gasser though. i like where your build is going! keep it up and screw the nay-sayers!

    Cool project.

Sorry I dont have pictures but a local guy had one of these I almost traded for. It ran a sbc-4speed set back under the windsheild with an aluminum dog house around it and at one point was supposed to be Hilborn injected. The car was ran for a time with the OE suspension and generally stock appearance as a sleeper. Later it got an axle, bigger meats-flared rear wells, a homemade scooped fiberglass hood which at that point the owner claimed it ran low 11s to high 10s.
This car would just make the Gas rules with the amount of set back allowed in the mid 60s but it was more of a fun toy and street racer than a trophy effort.

There were (and still are) many old racers and wild street cars around here that never made the big time but were still very cool and rather fast that didnot fit into the current accepted bag of cookie cutter cars. Goodluck with the build man.

lol.. man this has been a funny thread. as long as your gasser is more go then show dont worry about all the negativity. build it and have fun smashing in it.Thats one thing that gets me , all the street freaks cars out there with slicks and multiple carbs that never make it past the car shows at the race track! just have fun and like i once read "drive it like you stole it". chuck

well i have spent the last two weeks trying to find the right wheels and tires for the rambler. i will know tomorrow if i have found the right ones or not!

  24. Neat project. I sure hope it will have an AMC motor. The Rambler (Ok AMC)six is a work of art. Like say a 258. Excellant cylinder head and many parts avaialble from the Jeep guys efforts. It is a very well designed motor. There is even one under the bench here.

Be careful about calling that a "Rambler" six! The 199/232/258 (and 4.0L block) design was introduces in May of 1964. It was limited to a few 64 Ramblers, mostly just the "Typhoon" special edition, but a few found their way into regular production cars the last month of 64 production. So Ramblers used that motor from 65-68 (last year of Rambler name). Prior to that was the ubiquitous 172.6/184/195.6 L-head and 56-65 195.6 OHV. Ramblers used those from 1950-65 -- a lot longer. Technically the 195.6 and the later design are AMC since AMC was incorporated in May 1954 and the 195.6 OHV didn't come out until 1956. From the top of the side covers down the 195.6 L-head and OHV are identical, share same crank/rods/bearings/timing set, but above the top of the side covers the block shape was changed to accommodate the OHV head. My point is that many will assume you're talking about the older six, but mostly us older guys who know Ramblers. Younger people (well, 30s+) usually don't even know about the older design.
