Well well, I guess I will come in here RELAX all, man o man years ago I plucked a 48 packard coupe out of the woods did what I wanted with it liked the ohio guy pro street thing hell even took her down the track at some of the first indy gg got a lot of crap from friends and lots of other guys around here had fun with the car lots of fun , all the nay sayers said it was dumb well 8 covers in the rags hr and all of em of huge hit at the 89 nats and the biggest complement in the world a personal phone call from Billy Bunham telling me I tipped the country on their ear and made a silk purce out of a sows ear that ment more to me that any of it at that time dare to be differant was not a phase yet lime green and one of possably 10 packard in the country at the time that was a rod, my point is as always build what ya want and have fun with it and build it for YOURSELF! not the masses and it for fun .......geez
This is like Civil Engineering in the USAF was... gotta have thick skin to be here! Lots of people from all walks of life with different size budgets and ideas. There's gonna be some disagreement no matter what! Just ignore the way negative stuff, consider the constructive criticism (sometimes hard to tell those two apart!), and build what you want the way you want it anyway. There might be a few "I told ya so's" in the end, but it's your car, your money, your fun or mistakes. Enjoy the build and ride! If something does end up not the way you expected just ask for advice and figure out how to correct/change it!
Removed the rear end yesterday going to buy new hangers and shackles today to install new leaf springs. The rear end will be moved back 2" to center it in the wheel well.....Everyone have a happy and safe Thanks giving!
this thing is looking awesome so far. i have a 63 2 door sedan that is being built with some help from me. (i say that, because i don't have the skills, time or tools to devote to this kind of build.) it's going to be more street freak than gasser though. i like where your build is going! keep it up and screw the nay-sayers!
That thing looks soo f'n wiiild with the nosebleed stance! keep up the good work! I wanna straight axle my Gremlin now!
Cool project. Sorry I dont have pictures but a local guy had one of these I almost traded for. It ran a sbc-4speed set back under the windsheild with an aluminum dog house around it and at one point was supposed to be Hilborn injected. The car was ran for a time with the OE suspension and generally stock appearance as a sleeper. Later it got an axle, bigger meats-flared rear wells, a homemade scooped fiberglass hood which at that point the owner claimed it ran low 11s to high 10s. This car would just make the Gas rules with the amount of set back allowed in the mid 60s but it was more of a fun toy and street racer than a trophy effort. There were (and still are) many old racers and wild street cars around here that never made the big time but were still very cool and rather fast that didnot fit into the current accepted bag of cookie cutter cars. Goodluck with the build man.
picked up a complete 9" early ford truck rearend yesterday for 117.00 all i needed was the third member out of it. Worked out for me!
that is a cool looking photoshop pic. I should have the ford 9 inch installed to day and start building the ladder bars...if all goes well!
this is the ford 9 inch i am going to use. did not get it under the rambler yet as other work took all my time. back to it on monday
God that thing is ugly!!! I love it!!! Go for it kid and make us proud! I built a gasser style 48' plymouth in 1968(avatar)...no body liked it......fukum!!..........enjoy!! unky-d
keep building, im building a 69 chevelle and have caught a lot of crap from it here locally, being different is what its all about
lol.. man this has been a funny thread. as long as your gasser is more go then show dont worry about all the negativity. build it and have fun smashing in it.Thats one thing that gets me , all the street freaks cars out there with slicks and multiple carbs that never make it past the car shows at the race track! just have fun and like i once read "drive it like you stole it". chuck
well i have spent the last two weeks trying to find the right wheels and tires for the rambler. i will know tomorrow if i have found the right ones or not!
Neat project. I sure hope it will have an AMC motor. The Rambler (Ok AMC)six is a work of art. Like say a 258. Excellant cylinder head and many parts avaialble from the Jeep guys efforts. It is a very well designed motor. There is even one under the bench here. Don
Be careful about calling that a "Rambler" six! The 199/232/258 (and 4.0L block) design was introduces in May of 1964. It was limited to a few 64 Ramblers, mostly just the "Typhoon" special edition, but a few found their way into regular production cars the last month of 64 production. So Ramblers used that motor from 65-68 (last year of Rambler name). Prior to that was the ubiquitous 172.6/184/195.6 L-head and 56-65 195.6 OHV. Ramblers used those from 1950-65 -- a lot longer. Technically the 195.6 and the later design are AMC since AMC was incorporated in May 1954 and the 195.6 OHV didn't come out until 1956. From the top of the side covers down the 195.6 L-head and OHV are identical, share same crank/rods/bearings/timing set, but above the top of the side covers the block shape was changed to accommodate the OHV head. My point is that many will assume you're talking about the older six, but mostly us older guys who know Ramblers. Younger people (well, 30s+) usually don't even know about the older design.
go for it. I grow up in the gasser era, dad ran a 40 chevy. Im building a 69 chevelle in gasser style and have caught crap but really didnt care. Just enjoy the build
well i ended up with cragar ss mags 14x4 fronts and 15x12 rears with mickey thompson sportsman pro 29x15.50 all with new tires not a bad deal all for 500 bucks!
