Built me a louver press.... and it works!

BTTT Just Fricken cool !! I'm back working on my louver press right now and just wondering who's louvering it up updates anyone else ?

have you thought about adapting the face plate idea from http://www.lowbucktools.com/MM1.html to your press?
that frame would make a great base for the face plate

hey MR. LOW BUCKS...good job so know i guess your in the louver business. i had money to burn, looked for over 45 yrs. for a louver man. and now that we have 1. i'am totally broke, well it doesn't matter. hell i don't even have a rod any more. but thanks for the thaught...call me POP...or what you just THAUGHT! HA!

 

Some where on here is a post of an english wheel made fron a similar bandsaw frame. The old time engineers most always did a nice graceful job on ulitarian machinery. Great job on the press.

 

that;s F'n sweet! I wish i could find cool ace old junk laying around! (bandsaw) and unfortunately i don't have room for sweet old tools that are huge!
Did you bead roll those flames in your motor cover , or do you have some kinda stamp? it looks way bad***!!

 

That thing is so sweet. The girl on the front is the cherry popper, I mean louver topper!

 

Hmm look what I found! It's an old bandsaw. That top wheel is 36" so it out to be usable as a louver press. Now if I can convince the owner that it's not worth much more than s****. I have found similar working machines with motor for $800. Some people think anything old is valuable but there is no real demand for the really old belt driven babbit bearing machines like this. I also included a pic of what Kiwi Kev's Oliver scrollsaw looked like in it's original state.

 

Thanks for that picture bluebolt. I didn't take any pics of the saw when it was still complete. I like the antique bandsaw too, reminds me of some old cast pieces I bought a few years back at a yard sale for $20. They have round holes where you install a a few pieces of pipe and it clamps in place. I thought maybe I would make a tire rack or something one day and they ended up getting buried under some junk in my back yard and forgotten. Anyway, recently I built a small bench mount english wheel so I could make a couple of glove box door panels for my Willys project and then I remembered those cast pieces. I dug them out and was surprised and very happy to discover they were perfect for the job of english wheel base! Very sturdy.

Your welcome. If it ever dries out around here I am going to try to buy that bandsaw. There's some other old machinery out there, I want to get it all and repurpose it. Here's a few more pics. The last pic is a restored shaper, the same as that metal frame with the two vertical shafts sticking up basically a router table. I am thinking about using that for my dining room table. May keep the shafts and put round flat tops on them lazy susan style.

Just flat dig your press! Bet it doesn't flex nearly as much as mine's fabricated frame!
