I got a fifty one starlite coupe that I subframed with a rear steer camaro front clip...not sure about all the g-body ch***is stuff but i know that if the steering box was in front of the arms it wouldn't of fit because of the way the front sheet metal sweeps back..i narrowed the subframe bout 2 inches first and everything fits and works great...got a 500 Cadillac in mine too...didn't all hot rod studebakers run caddys?

Choprods, that makes good sense to me and it's good to know as well. Thanks!

  3. Makes sense to me too. I measured the stude unloaded,so track should be good. Thanks!

I did a donor floor and ch***is swap-67 Chev full size (Impala Caprice) under a 55 Chev 2dr post. The 67 had a 4 inch wider stance and 3 inch longer wheelbase. I radiused the rear wheels for clearance and took the 3 inches out of the length. The nice thing about the floor included swap is the body to frame mounts are already there-plus the 55 I did needed a whole floor. Other advantages are-steering, brakes, suspension, motormounts, already in place.

I guess my point is-when you get the donor car, grab a tape measure and explore the possibilities and dimentions with the Stude.

I made some mods for radiator support and inner fenders, but my swap was a real easy one. I put over 60,000 trouble free miles on the 55.

A really workable way to build a solid driver from an otherwise unrebuildable junker.

Gotta check everything twice before you commit to your donor vehicle however.

There is/was a 57 4door with a perimeter frame swap up this way. You couldn't miss the frame knuckle showing proud in the 57's tapered back front wheel well!
It was right in your face and totally spoiled the whole car.
Maybe an S10 frame would have been a better choice, but I figure the guy didn't even realize he had a problem till he tried to bolt the front fenders back on...after the car was finished, of course. [IMG]

Before you buy the donor check it all CAREFULLY from all angles...then get someone you trust to do it again!

Man wierd time to see this post. I know this isnt really what youre asking, but I couldnt resist...coming back from the parts store I happened to glance over into a repair shop lot and see a late 70s early 80s El Camino...with a Bullet nose Stude front clip on it. WTF?@??@??!! I was totally beside myself, never saw that before! Anyone else ever heard of such a monster? It was wieeeerrdd.
