i got a front bumper for a 61 falcon from them about 10 years ago and it seemed to be pretty nice. Didn't keep that car for all that long so i can't tell ya how well the chrome held up. But it looked nice when i had it.

    HELL NOOOOOOO!!!!!! DON'T GO THERE.

i've had trouble with them. first they say 4 weeks for front and back bumpers. 4 weeks went to 8 weeks. the back bumper had some dirt or something in it. so i rejected it. they said to give them another week. 1 week turned into 3 weeks and then they call me. they gave me someone elses bumper. i argued with them. then a couple of days later they said it will be a couple of weeks. so i said fuck it and kept it. it was the same year and style i wanted but i knew it wasn't mine.

  12. We sent them two CHERRY, straight, original, "no bumper guard" bumpers.
We had combed the swap meets and wrecking yards to find two that were nice and did not need any hammer work to make them right.

Got two back with bumper guard holes... and a bunch of hammer marks on the back.

    Sent them back.

Got two bumpers with holes welded up... and the front one was bent and the back one was blotchy...

    Sent them back.

Got two bumpers, front one had holes that had been filled, and it did not fit the grille right.

    Back bumper was bent.

Sent the back one back.... kept the front because it was as good as we were ever going to get.

Got a back one back that had a little bit of cloudyness... so we sent it back...

Picked one up IN PERSON at the P-Town swap... they said to look it over because it was the last one that they were going to give us...

Looked it over... chrome looked good, bumper looked straight... got it home and noticed that is was bent along the top once we got it on and had something to compare it to...

Kept that one too... 'cause it was the best we were going to get from them...

    Sam.

  13. DON'T do it.

    these guys are shill artists.

  14. NO NO NO !!!! Do not use them. They "lost" my smoothed bumpers for my 55. I went to a local swap meet a couple of month later and they were selling them. I knew they were mine cause I did the smooth job myslef and did it the "wrong way". When I called to find out what was up with my bumpers they offer to replace them with a similar set (not cromed of course cause mine weren't cromed when I sent them. When I got the new ones it was for a different make and year car.

Try the Bumper Shop in LA. (323)585-3865. I have had good luck with them.
    Good Luck...

Chrome is going to shit on a bumper I got around 7 years ago. Its starting to flake in streaks. My dad also got a '46 chev pu grille from them on an exchange when it arrived we opened it up to find that the fucks never cleaned up their welds on the repaired areas. DONT DEAL WITH THEM!

I met a guy at machungie last year that had a sweet custom 48 olds fastback.. I commented that I loved the chop, the pancaked hood and rolled pans front and rear.. then I said " the only thing I dont like is that you got rid of the beautiful stock grille,

his response was "well I sent my grille to bumper boys and they lost it!" and we didnt have, nor could we locate another. so I built this one..."

I will not deal with them.. and dont suggest that anyone else should..

  18. Never had a problem with them and have sent 5 or 6 different bumpers to them. Are you sure about that. I have worked with them a bunch.

they advertise for cores....i took a few good cores, desireable ones, mind you..to one of our meets, cause they quoted me a set price to buy them & said" yeah, we want those.." looked them up at the meet...and ,yep...guess what.."oh well these arent those good..we dont get calls for this..etc... we'll give ya $10 for these ,each..." we were set up at this meet...so I took em back to our spot, loaded em on our rollback, drove over in front of thier big spot and fancy semi...laid the bumpers under the rear iCC bumper of the carrier, and tilted the bed...in full view of the Bumper Boyz, crushed the cores into the pavement.....now i dont speak spanish, but im sure it wasnt nice...oh, we didnt leave em there either...they probably would have straightened them...

Northstar Plating in Brainard, MN. These guys do CONCOURS quality work for some of the best, most expensive cars in the country--for prices you wouldn't believe. They quoted me $250 two years ago for a '57 Chevy 1pc front bumper--not a good guy "magazine writer" price. $1500 for a complete '59 Caddy bumper.
I did two stories with them. I don't have the time here to go into whole process, but: they have a crew that's been straightening bumpers for decades. They use 3-foot long belt sanders with the bumpers clamped in jigs so there are no waves in the metal. They can repair just about any amount of damage, you get YOUR bumper back (they give them a serial number), and they check each bumper against a template before plating it. High quality Copper/nickle/chrome plating, with buffing between each phase.
Their bread and butter is OE bumpers, so you're getting OE quality plating that has to stand up to salt roads, etc., and their collector car bumpers come with a nice warranty.
The catch is that they don't do customized bumpers! Maybe if you sweet talk them a bit you could get a shaved or restyled bumper plated by them though.
I'll look up the number tonight and post it.

My brother has had 2 bumpers done at Northstar, and they DID weld up extra bumperguard holes for him when he asked. And the chrome on them looks perfect. And he got his own bumpers back. And his local body shop delt with the shipping since they regularly send stuff there.

Northstar did the bumpers on both my 55 Chevy and 60 Impala. EXCELLENT work. I got my originals back and haven't had any problems with them at all. My 55's were pitted, and the guards were badly dented, but they straightened them out very well. My 55's were done in 1996 and there has been no discoloration, peeling, etc. The backsides haven't even gotten any surface rust or anything bad either. Same for the 60's. I can't remember the exact price, but I think it was about $500 for my 55's bumpers and all 4 guards. I think my 60's were about $600 in 1999. I don't have an address or phone number, as they were picked up at the body shop where my cars got worked on. Also the guy from Northstar that picked them up, knew what they were off of just by looking at them. One other thing, I'm not sure if their name is still Northstar. I think they either changed it from Northstar to something else, or changed from something else to Northstar. I can't remember which.

They hosed me big time one year at Pamona! I called and had a exchange all set up for a 1950 chevy rear bumper. hauled it from SD to pamona then carried it from the parking lot and on the tram then all through the swap trying to find those clowns.........Finally when I found them they had NO idea who I was and what I was talking about. they had no bumper and doubled the price to redo mine.....I told them to F off and walked around the corner found some old time Mexi dude who took mine plated it and UPSed it back to me for half the price!!!

As a rule, I try not to deal with too many companies that substitute the letter "Z" for the letter "S."

    same goes for magazines. . . .

  29. I read a mag article about them, maybe it was yours. I called them and they are now part of the KEYSTONE company. I don't know if they are still doing the work in Brainerd or in some satellite locations now that they are K.S. Quoted $488 with core.
Guys, I'm convinced! No Bumper Bumz! Northstar it is. I just have to verify that the bumper gets the same attention as North Star, now that they are K.S.
