  1. I replaced the rear coil springs in a '50 Olds using 2 bumper jacks. I was 16 at the time and lived to tell about it. That was over 60 years ago and anything other than a bumper jack was for rich guys.

I just used the OEM bumper jack to put the spare tire on my Comet when I bought it.
I was down in Atlanta picking it up from the previous owner. He said it would start right up and drive up on the trailer.
When I got there it had flat tire and decent spare. So I used the factory lug wrench and bumper jack to change the tire just like I have done hundreds of times in my life. I am 70 and used to always make sure my cars had a jack of some kind and sometimes that was a bumper jack. That's just the way it was.
Now if anybody needs a factory bumper jack and lug wrench for a 65 Comet . I will sell it cheap as I am installing a fiberglass front bumper and lightening the back bumper brackets. DSCF3590.JPG

Clean it up and sell it. Bought all the brakes stuff. lines and hoses plus shoes drums wheel cyl. New tank and fuel line. New rad. and hoses. New body and suspension bushings, new front end kit. good used engine and rebuilt transmission. All new shocks and springs. Basically all new mechanicals. Have a extra front clip for it. Cheap reliable transportation for someone. DSCF7510.JPG DSCF7511.JPG DSCF7532.JPG

there must be a lot of incompetent people on here .Not knowing how to safely use a bumper jack.
I know that they were invented by some evil engineer, if they were as dangerous as you people say Ralph Nader would have written a book about bumper jacks instead of the Corvair.
Common sense tells you don't crawl under the car without a safety stand. don't jack it up unless the ground is solid and level. Don't jack the jack any higher than needed to change a tire. Don't break the lug nuts loose after you have jacked up the car. Using a bumper jack that was not designed for that bumper.
