Bump - here's another shot of the '40 Std in a different light - the color is actually quite a dark burgundy.

check out brickyard red from nissan. Was on there 350z. Color has a very interesting effect. Metallic burgandy that shows a sort of root beer color in certain lighting. Awesome color IMO

Im painting my chevelle in 2007 lexus marroon. It has a great bloody redish marroon color in the sun then as the light goes away it turns a very dark color. Its a two step paint that has a tri-coat effect to it. Dupont makes it for around $650 a gallon.

Have you looked at PPG custom color called Ruby Slipper, very dark burgundy, high pearl and awesome color...probably have to pay through the nose for it, but would look awesome on a 40.

I have used the early 80s Chevy truck maroon, came in 2 shades with one being really dark. Paint color is Carmine and Dark Carmine. Non Metallic, makes a great Hotrod color with a Buckskin, Charcoal Grey, or Black interior.

I prefer the single stage colors of the era, for that period of car. The 1946 Ford had a nice true Burgandy, it was called Dynamic Maroon Ford part #M-3989 Dulux color#93-33106-M, Duco 246-33106M

Chrysler had a Brandy Wine in the 80`s that was on the 5th Ave`s. It was Base-clear but not a tri-coat so it was simple to apply.

    I love the maroon colors.

I did a 1951 Packard Model 200 2 Door Post in 1979 Olds 98 Carmine Red. Take a look at it. It may be a candidate.

This is PPG's match for "coach maroon", a ford color offered from 1935 into the '40s. PPG # 916040 (Ferrari Masolac). Maybe it'll make the old Ford go faster. :)

I believe my 50' has an early 90's Chrysler color. It's a PPG Antique Red.

For a traditional car I prefer a non metallic color from the 40s. The high metallic modern colors are pretty but not on an old hot rod or custom. JMHO

There are some really nice Lexus colors too if you can find one with out a lot of Metallic in it. I'd like to get my '52 into some deep dark Burgandy paint this year.

  26. I dig a shade called Royal Cessna Maroon. I am looking for an example, we srayed my daily with it in college, Imron I think.

Look at the 1993 Corvette annivesary red. It's called Ruby red metallic, but it's burgandy /maroon. I did a '65 Chevelle that color and it really came out great.

I painted my '51 Medium Garnet Red. It was a 1997 GMC truck color. I used PPG Deltron Base / Clear.
