Damn, cool article, hadn't seen it before. Looks like the contractor got to keep them all for free! And the guy and his daughter are car people and plan to dig them out carefully and fix them. Pretty awesome. At the very least, now they'll be cleaned out and moved inside. All of them look like they were pretty well built, too.

Ten Antique Speedsters, Automobiles and Trucks Found Buried at Teardown Site
    July 31, 2018

    Ford-Speed-Car-1.jpg

    Arden, North Carolina
: Reminiscent of the uncovering of the "Roger Baillon Collection" in France less than four years ago, but only one-sixth of the size and containing less exotic vehicles is this forgotten collection just uncovered in the US southeast recently.

David Mount, a contractor, based in Asheville, North Carolina, located in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains had booked a job with the new owner of this property to tear down a collapsed house and to clean up the site. After his thirteen-year-old daughter Bailey found a car in the ba*****t of the home they then discovered nine more vehicles covered up with Kudzu, an invasive vine common in the south that is native to eastern Asia. Underneath the green carpet of vegetation nine more vehicles were uncovered.

Mount has removed most of the vehicles and still has to extricate a few more from the property. Some of them are in “rough condition” and this morning he and his crew are “still getting cars out and seeing what we want to keep!”

He joined the “1920s Antique Automobile, Br*** Era Cars, and Orphan Makes” Facebook Page this morning. There he posted the photos of the Ford flathead V-8 powered Speedster in the lead photo (above) asking for help to identify it.

This story was shared with us by Shenton King a friend and fellow member of the HCCA. We will update this with any new developments. Share with us what you find of interest in the copyrighted photos courtesy of David Mount.

to have been built on a modified Model “A” Ford ch***is. Modifications include
split wishbones and a “suicide” front end fitted with pre-1936 Ford wire wheels.

HEMI32, Thank you for the direct link to David's website sure makes for an easier HAMB read. I agree all the vehicles would look good on the New Jersey shoreline 2019. Bob

Better yet, tear out, and send ALL this Kudzu, and English Ivy, back to whatever country they originally came from. I spent the last two summers (before this summer) doing English Ivy abatement (TWO FULL SUMMERS!!!!!); and none of that stuff should have ever been allowed into this country. ALL of it's destructive; I don't care, "how nice it looks". Chances are, it's pretty much destroyed these cars also. If any of you have had to deal with these "plants", you know exactly what I'm talking about. Nothing but INVASIVE SPECIES to our country, and far worse than sneaking across our borders; we let this stuff in LEGALLY (?????). Send it ALL back to England/Europe. JMO!!!!! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Unbelievable but highly understandable from a p***ionate hoarding standpoint without regard for preserving just having.

No doubt a crusty lone wolf who either had no family or had disconnected family through eccentricity that in the end saw bulldozer material and just were unloading a sad reflection of many years in the making for the inheritance.

This is only an ***umption on my part of course but obviously the relics were acquired through a man's life and it ended with things caving in and no one giving a rat's ***...I look forward to the history before our eyes being hopefully revived but things are remotely reminiscent of Christine being unearthed from her watery mucky capsule several years ago. Fingers crossed and a BIG thumbs up to that contractor.

Thanks @The37Kid for sharing this sad situation with some chance at a return to a former glory.

Plymouth roadster appears to be a legit hotrod, with Ford flathead V8 power, Guide headlights with markers, a chopped windshield frame (looks like), and what appear to be Lyon wheel covers.

Everything pictured deserves to be restored or at the very least preserved. Hopefully the new owners (or subsequent owners) have ClarkH levels of dedication to their restorations.

If you have never seen a 1926-27 Ford Roadster pickup spare tire bracket this is what they look like. At one time they brought stupid money because they are rare. Bob

Now imagine, what those cars would have looked liked WITHOUT this invasion of these non-species? I know, some of you you don't really understand my "RANT", but for crying out loud, think of what WE might have had if it was't for the importation of these non-****es; our landscapes, AND, our vintage iron, would have survived much better. Before, we had Blackberry Vines, and really not much else. I'm just trying to "open" your eyes, to what's happening right under
your noses. The real idea, is to SAVE, what's out there. There was a time, when "I" thought, this English Ivy planting, was of NO concern to me. And then, my neighbor behind me planted all these "sprigs" of Ivy on a "drainage ea*****t" (city description of a ditch) on our property. And, I just "let it go"; I should't have, and neither should you. It rots everything, and "pulls" everything into the ground, where it rots even more'; just look at those pics the OP provided; what would that stuff look like now WITHOUT Kudzu destroying it? That's the point I'm trying to make, NOT anger any of you. Around 40 years ago, I told a guy I knew about a 40's Willys Coupe, overgrown in blackberry vines.; he went out and got it, and built a nice rod with it. If it had been in Kadzu or English Ivy, that grows 24/7, and even during the winter, it would't have been there at all, completely rotted away. THINK! That's all I'm saying; just trying to save some vintage iron, and not let it all rot away.
I'm not even sure how to respond to "Stogy"; he obviously did't understand what I was trying say. Maybe he's a nurseryman, who sells this stuff to an unsuspecting public? I just can't justify his response; can you? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Butch my response was not in relation to what you were putting across it was my opinion about the man and his life with these cars...weeds aside and no I am not affiliated or a supporter of the plant.

It was not a response at all to your opinion. I hope you understand.

Heck ya got me thinking about horror movies and the killer weeds. No doubt the weeds grew over everything and contributed to the situation but the house seemed to have caved in allowing the elements to move in and that Chrysler roadster is buried in garbage and dirt like it was a compost heep.

If you think Kudzu is bad google hogweed. It gets a 6 inch diameter stem and 2 1/2 feet diameter head. If you get the juice in your eye you go blind!! AND yes, it is the US courtesy of southeast Asia.

I think Kudzu was imported from Japan by the US AG Dept to control erosion on ditch banks. Only problem was it didn't work, water will run right under it, and when it took root in Southern soils with all the heat and humidity we have in summer, it's growth exploded faster than they thought it would. It does go dormant in winter, all that is visible is the vines, and whatever it has swallowed. I own some property that part of it is covered in it, making it virtually useless. I've heard there is a poison that will kill it, but it's expensive.
I've looked in winter to see if there are any treasures covered up by it on my property, but other than the remnants of an old barn, there's not. And yes, the barn was empty, too. Wasn't anything it it but horse ****, which fertilized the Kudzu pretty good.....

My Uncle's father in law was reputed to have buried several dozen cars on his property during the mid-thirties all the way into the sixties as a way to keep his friends from having their cars repossessed. Trouble was, he was sketchy as all get out and apparently couldn't remember where he buried what. He did have a '41 Pontiac with a straight eight in it, that his daughter (Uncle's wife) drove to high school in the early '60's. It sat in a side yard until it simply ceased to exist as a vehicle.

  30. As the older hoarders p*** away
More and more of these car and parts hoards will surface
We see it here on the Hamb , cars and parts popping up all the time
See it on my local cl***ifieds folks getting older etc cars being sold by the kids

It’s the circle of life as it were, as the generation who grew up with these cars hoarded them, and drive up the popularity and price.

Now that the market will get an influx of stock as it were prices are coming down and becoming affords for the next generation and the cycle will continue!!
