Does anyone have a tip on how to remove 'Ol Rubber from 'Ol Running Boards?
(A torch is probably not a good idea?..or is it?)

  3. With really hard brittle rubber I have chipped it off with an air hammer and wide flat blade.

  4. A heat gun should soften the glue enough to peel it off, then clean up with thinners.

  5. I toss em in the oven and bake em up, loosen glue and scrape and pull off. sometimes tough, sometimes easy....heat gun or torch (rosebud) is yer' friend if you dont have a big assed oven, doesnt everybody?

Original Fords (from at least '32 on up, and maybe earlier) were vulcanized onto the steel backing. They were not glued. So if yours is like that there is no glue to soften. I'd try to scrape the hard stuff that chips off as much as possible, then try the rough wire wheel for the stuff that still sticks.

I chipped mine off with a hammer, a screwdriver and putty knife. Cleaned up the rest with a wire wheel and a 4" grind wheel for the real tough spots.

Yep they look vulcanized...rubber coming through holes in the metal...

I was hoping for a Mystery Liquid that you brush on...come back ten minutes later and you have clean metal.
...So i guess I just have to use some old fashion Blood, Sweat & Beers!
