Nice ride - I have always loved these vans. This is the 5 cwt E494C and they were indeed known as the Fordson in the U.K. The 10 cwt E83W (below) was known as the Thames in the UK - also known as the 'Ten Ten' in Australia. To complicate matters, both the E494C and the larger E83W were known as Fordsons (as were UK Ford tractors) but only the larger E83W was generally referred to as the Thames. In the US both types were called Thames. Thoroughly confused? Me too....

Very nice job. It looks great. What did is the paint? A semi gloss black, or a hot rod black of some sort?

It is Acrylic Enamel Satin black, kind of a no name swap meet brand. I will NEVER use it again, it is thinner than water!!! Constantly fighting runs, It turned out OK after several tries. Plans in the future call for gloss black in a yr or 2. I painted the floors firewall etc in Dupont 99A pitch black gloss, so when it is time to re-paint I won't have to completely tear apart.

Don't these snubnose trucks have the 37 Ford pickuplooking grille rather than the Anglia/Prefect/Thames waterfall with slots grille?

Real ones have a flat bolted in stamped steel back panel and are based on the panel but with short capped sides and stamped steel tailgate.

Yes the E83W grilles do look similar but they do not interchange with the US 1937 commercials.

  11. "Simple Simon" I had that as a kid also! One bad*** model. I have always wanted a Thames or an Anglia also!!!

  12. Cool panel. one of my fave cars of all time. Loved the old Revell kit.
