I posted a few times, new guy to "owning" a car, been looking and now I am in the middle of negotiating with a guy..

If you have a moment, give me your 2 cents.

Went a looked at the car...liked it a lot, fits my needs, fits my budget, etc, etc.... I take pictures, go through the car, etc.. the owner gives me his asking price.

I leave, print and show my pictures to 3 different car guys whose opinions I respect, they ask questions give me the thumbs up.. check with the wife, she is a go,

I go back a second time, drive the car, let owner give me ride... look at the car, go through it a second time, look more critically. Give the guy my counter offer, leave. He is thinking about it..

Now that I have walked away for the second time, I am not so excited. Am I a chicken s&%t or just being a smart buyer. Thinking about walking away on the deal, cuz in the back of my mind.. I think there is something better out there...

To answer your question, less than $7K, orginal paint and motor, 283, 2-speed auto, 107K miles, all new interior, drives, tracks great, new radiator, front end, new ball joints, bushings etc... just a lot of minor dings, scratches, boogers, small split in the dash

  2. Is this an individual or the crooked car lot? If the car lot, I say trust your gut instinct. Private party, ask if you can have a mechanic check it out. It appears to be an extremely well cared for car.

  3. Looks like a nice car to me. 59 and 60 GM flat-top 4 doors are cool. if you want to use the car, the minor dings, scratches and boogers you talk about are there and out of the way. Gives the car character and allows you not to feel bad when you put the first booger on it.

Private party, older guy, has health issues, seems like a very straight shooter, he is local, lives in my town. Other guys that I haved talked too know the car and the owner... everything is good feedback.

  5. got any more Pics? Is that chrome door trim on the front edge of the right front door, and the back edge of the hood?

This is the sentance that bothers me......"not so excited", then by all means walk away. In almost 30 years of purchasing cars, muscle cars, streetrods, daily drivers, etc, this thought never crossed my mind when purchasing a vehicle. I've been excited to the max, sometimes like in the purchase of Big Olds, not being able to sleep for days till he was home in my garage.

It's a fine 4-door cruiser. If that's what you're after, all else sounds good.

Lose the door edge guards, get some Supremes or WWW or something, drop it and drive it.

Remember who you're buying it for - and if you're happy, it's a good deal.

What else could you get in and drive for that price that would be as cool? If you decide you don't like it, I don't think you'd have any trouble getting your cash back out of it.

If it were a 2-door, I'd be talking you out of it and asking for the guy's number. It sure looks like a cool ride. It'd be a great daily driver or burger stand cruiser.

It's buyer's remorse. This is why car dealers want you to make a deal right then. That way you get buyer's remorse after you've already bought the car.

You should try to look at it as objectively as you can. Do you like that style and overall look of the car? Does everything check out as far as it being in good running condition? Do you car if some people think 4 doors aren't cool enough?

If the car runs and drives as good as it looks in the pictures, I'd get it for sure. Of course, I have a thing for 4 dr. hardtops.

from the pics, that's a VERY clean car, and if you don't like it you can resell it, simple. If you lose money, you won't lose much that's for sure. It looks to be in great shape at a great price

if you are not exited about it, whats the point? Dont buy it if its not what you want.

  20. If it's not the one for you, there are some great deals in the HAMB classifieds for that price. Nice car, though.

I am okay with 4drs, sure I would prefer a 2dr, but thats a bit out of my budget and this in my first "classic car", my biggest critera, was I wanted a safe driver, that was dependable, this thing starts and drives exteremly well, and he has done all the important stuff, new tires, 12 volt alternator, redid the front end, dual exhaust, does not leak any fluid, no squeaks when we drove it, .... and I didn't want a show quality paint job, I think I am just a chicken about pulling the trigger.

I feel 12 again, and I want to KISS her soooo bad, and I know she will kiss me back, but I am just scared..

If it doesn't get your pulse racing, it's not THE one.

    Go find another that DOES.

    i agree.
it is a very nice car.
here's the thing,if you really like a car you will put up with the small problems that pop up from time to time.
if not you'll just resent it.

Definitely NOT original paint. Look at the jambs- painted rubber is the first clue. Anything could be hiding, but still a decent looking cruiser.

  25. Its a cool car, and the flattops doesnt have the "high roof" look as most 4 doors!
If you like the car, bye it, i`ve allways thought that a well maintained car (sounds like this is) is worth more then a car that looks nice but you know nothing about!

Cool car, But since you are only 12 have your folks buy it for you. And if you get bored with it you can trade it for an ipod or some electrical device. That way you wont get "buyers remorse" since you didnt buy it..

I think it looks like a very presentable cruiser. I'm just surprised at the prices some folks seem to get for things. I've got a 1967 Thunderbird two door that might well be 43k original miles with a 390 4v, perfect interior, new white walls, new astro supremes, AC, PW, PDL, PS, PDB, Power seats, Tilt, and more and I was thinking I'd be lucky to get $4k out of it. It needs new paint though. I guess by comparison, I thought a four door would bring less money. Still, $7k is not a whole lot of money for a toy. Guys here are paying that for snowmobiles that they won't get 1/10 the use out of.
