You haven't seen CASH until you've been to Hershey...there are people there who are probably ready to pay cash for a Duesenberg if they trip over one they like. It feels like you're in the largest and richest refugee camp in the country.
This country obviously has a VERY large invisible cash section ot its economy, and old car folks are a big part of it.
New car economy: $30,000 car=$1,000 down and $300 per month til trade in a couple of years later...whereinhell is the money??
Old car economy: $30,000 '32 Ford=one McDonald's bag full of hundred dollar bills. Money.

I travel alone and don't sleep very well toting 10-50,000 in cash across the country. Besides all the plain crooks, drugrs, & motel staff, try explaining to the cops if you ever get serched why you have that much cash. You may kiss it goodby!

I learned a long time ago that when I go to a swap meet to go in my work clothes and not shave from Wednesday on. I look like I was drug through the no money zone and I put different amounts in different pockets so I can pull out just a little at a time. I have never had a problem and I carry enough cash to do what ever I intend to do. Gumpa

  7. Cash is King, however the last deal I did was on a hand shake...no problem...Karma works real well.

Brining lots of cash to a swap meet is cool if you are with somebody and you have a "little friend". I NEVER roll with cash (larger than 500.00) without my "little friend".

I know a guy that was jacked after the pamona swap meet after he tried to buy a car cash. a couple of guys saw him flash a wad of money and when he stopped to get gas he got rushed. they took his cash, busted his face and took his truck....not a good day for him at all..

I like that, that's going to make my quote of the week! :p It's so true. I hate this hobby becoming an elitist thing but this old car hobby has gotten is pretty cashy. I guess the bigger question, perhaps for another thread, is will it peak or continue it’s gradual rate of gain?

It is cash if I am looking for something that is going to sell fast. I bring two buddies: a big friend named Scott and a little friend named GLOCK. I have only had to do this twice but both times, I felt confident that nothing was going to go wrong. The last one was at a swap meet where I drove the car home and Scott drove mine home. Oh, and stay in public site if at all possible. Don't go around the corner to the hot dog stand and do the deal either.
    My $0.02.

You got that right, Bruce!!! I saw with my own eyes 50K counted out on the hood of a Vette in the Hershey car corral parking lot. It's amazing! There has to be millions in there walking around for a ready sale.

    Since you're new to KC,

If you're looking to buy, you should check out the Kruizin the Heartland show in Lawrence this Sat. They'll have a swapmeet too. Good show either way. Or, wait for the Shriners swapmeet in Aug. at the Woodlands - tons of great cars in the swapmeet and car corral.

I sold one at a swap meet a couple years ago for $15000.00. The guy gave me a deposit and said I will be back in a minute. He comes back and asked me to deal in the truck. He pulled out a bank bag with well over $50,000 in it and counted out mine on the seat, saw him later with a nice car hauler full.
The rest of the day I was uncomfortable with the roll in my pocket and wished I had my "little friend " with me. I was quite surprised with how much money was floating around and was wondering the same about weapons since this is a conceal carry state.

"bring cash and a trailer and you usually are good to go..."

At Hershey, I don't think you're a player unless a trailer is necessary to haul your cash there!
Sometimes I wonder what's under the tarp on the little red wagons rolling past...some of those guys really are carrying more cash than will fit on a person...

Everyone talks about their little friend. I used to carry a 357 with me all over the country. Cops are the ones that scare me if they happen to find it loaded and it dam sure don't do you any good empty unless you are going to throw it at the perp.

  18. Your a real redneck. No offence but you live in 1800's.

  19. No I live in Spokane. Me a redneck. You have no Idea how funny that is. Around here I'm thought of as a hippy:D

  20. CASH CASH CASH

If you don't have it ask some fellows you know (that know you)at the swap who do have cash...saved a couple of sweet deals this way and they were fun to get together with on the pay back....

Then when the deal is done .. most likely your shoppin for the day is done too... most times you can have the car delivered from the seller ... its on his trailer or hook or is driveable..leave your good insured ride some safe place .. stay with the vehicle until its on your own turf ... make arrange ments that with a bud or relative that live close ..........offer a meal or something for his trouble ... KARMA KARMA KARMA

your own insurance most likly will cover for the few days til they are notified by you
know what a clear ***le should look like
no ***le prove its his how?do you care ?

call AAA and have it towed
a years woth of AAA IS LESS THAN 1 TOW AND YOU GET 3 FREE A YEAR

Ask for the best way to get the car right now including his trouble to get it into your name and out of his way! ...work the deal
Buy his whole pile so he can leave with you now.!. work the deal .. Cover his swap space costs ... work the deal
    MONEY moves people
most guys are hurtin a little when they sell a family member (the old car) treat them with respect.

you are supposed to be in control
    good luck.. :)

Re: "how many handguns at swapmeets?" question - you'd be surprised at how many bidders are "packing" at the special interest car auctions...even though most of the bidders are prequalified with letters from lenders.

The buddy advise and a friend in the pocket is the best way. If I were selling a car or large item at a swap meet, I would take a money order or a cashiers check they both can be forged. Cruiser 49

  24. Not in KC you aint.

You'll find that most folks around here won't take a check (do ya blame 'em?) and I've even had guys tell me i didn't leave any cash with 'em or change the price when i got back with the cash. or found the pieces missing and them saying you left no deposit. that usually costs 'em some teeth.

no one can give you a receipt because you might work for the IRS and the list goes on.

I guess if you're makeing a 20,000 deal its an entirely different story but a grand or two in the pocket is nuthin'.

If you're worried about carrying cash give me a call. I'll hook up with ya no one ever robs me or very seldom even tries. Guess its that crazy look in my eye or that totally busted look in general I carry about with me. I guess it could be the gerber in my back pocket too ( I don't see the need for a firearm).

Oh I'm not a tough guy BTW just dumb.

You have to have cash right then to make the deal.I've taken deposits from people ,then once another guy sees that the car is going to sell his confidence level goes up and they offered me a couple hundred more to give guy #1 his deposit back and make up a story why you can't sell it now.I would not do that to anyone but a lot of people ,unfortunately, would.Have the cash, get the paperwork, deal over.

CASH; JUST cash, nothing but cash;...whether I'm buying, or selling. In $100 dollar bills only! I always buy that way. I always sell that way. If you've got "Bank Paper" of any kind, you've got cash to back it up with! I'll take the cash, Thank You! my 2 cents only.

Yes, Thank You! the curb-feelers fit just fine!
