I just can't imagine spending that much on anything thatI haven't checked out in person. You might come out of it whole, but I believe the odds are that you might be disappointed. I can't believe you wouldn't be able to find a similar truck for the same money closer to FLA so that you could inspect it. Good luck though.

I think the takeaway from all this is that jjrockbush did some investigating....but he investigated the facts of the original Ebay listing and seller....problem is that the scammer is not that guy. So the guys original Ebay listing details will check out. Where it starts to go sideways is that the scammer probably wont ever talk to you on the phone and will only email you. Since Ebay "protects" email addresses..you never can really tell if the email address is from the original Ebay seller. Second chance offers are really a big problem with Ebay...unless you can talk to the guy on the phone, on the same number he had posted on the original listing (and even that can be hijacked), or you or an agent look at it in person...I say be VERY CAREFUL!!

ebay is the most fucked company out there. they are a money making machine and could not care less what happens to people who buy and sell there so long as it does not affect thier bottom line.

most hijacked accounts come from fake ebay lookalike emails with a clickable link where the unsuspecting person gives away thier ID and Password. ebay sends out the same exact email with a clickable link that leads to a sign in page. if they cared about buyers and sellers they would not have emails like this, and make a point to make sure everyone knows never click on a link in an email and give away any important information.

there was so many fake second chance offer scams going on a few years back. ebays solution was to make it so no one could see who bid other than the seller. if they really wanted to protect the ebay members thay would have eliminated second chance offers alltogether, but then they would lose some sales. the hidden bidders did help somewhat in eliminating some of these scams, but in return made schill bidding all but impossible to detect, so that rare part that you got for $150.00 now has 5 bids from the sellers other accounts to boost the price... a win--win for ebay and who cares if the buyer pays more than it would have gone for otherwise.

I'm there every day looking for junk to buy but I hate the company with a passion...

    I couldn't agree more!
Fly out to get a look and feel for the deal.
If it's a go rent a van and a trailer from Ryder or someone like that and haul it home yourself, total cost probably around $1000 and you have an adventure in the process!

even sometimes when you go and look you are overly optimistic and don't really think things through or do all of the checking that you should before handing over the $$.
jjrockbush-for another truck check out classictruckcentral.com (where truck you wanted to buy is in an ad) or use a site like Webcrawler or allofcraigslist.com or multiple other sites to find something close enough for you to go see and test drive.

Never bought on line and never will. Way too many land mines. Kick the tires, listen to the engine, smell the exhaust, pay and drive away. Old school. Ain't been screwed yet except by the ole lady.

I'm confused, maybe someone can explain this to me...........Epay has made auction bids only visible to the seller. So, in this case, the seller's account must have been hacked for the scammer to make the second chance offer, correct? So, why is the auction still active? Or, is the link to the auction posted by the OP a fake? I'm lost....

I bought an old jeep two years ago on ebay from the pictures and it was just as it was advertised. of course it was just $600. but ebay worked fine for me. but for something that costs lots more... a trip (or opinion of a fellow hamber) is a darn good idea.

  11. Ive bought three on ebay and putting it mildly they werent my better deals. No biggie paid $500 for two and $225 for another. They would bring tht for scrap. If i was spending serious money I would go look in person. OldWolf
