Was wondering if one could use a small shifter lever in side the car next to the auto floor shifter to use as a kickdown on a auto trans? Instead of hooking it to the carb linkage. So when you wanted a p***ing gear you could just pull the small shifter lever back and kick down a gear. Would this harm the transmission? and do you think it would work . Thanks:

I drove one for over 4 years and over 110K miles, with the kickdown rod wired back in the kickdown position. So I don't think adding a lever to it would hurt it one bit. As I recall it, not using it starts the car off in second gear. Putting it in the kickdown position all of the time, will work but it takes awhile to get used to it. Every time the vacuum drops, it downshifts. So you have to be really light on the throttle. And winter driving is a bit tricky too. But I was young and stupid then, and I loved it.

  3. My c-4 starts out in 1st with the kick down cable removed. Shifts down just fine.
