Hey guys this is my first ever forum post and I’m hoping someone can give me some insight!
I have a 62 c10 that has a blown up 235 and I’m getting a 1973 250 i6 to replace it with. my question being, will the trans bolt up easily? I plan to use my original Muncie 3 speed on the tree and I’m not really sure if it will bolt up without requiring a bunch of different parts to make it work.
    Any input is appreciated.

I am not the most fluid on I6 Chevy's but I am pretty sure the bellhousing pattern is the same it should bolt right up. Your motor mounts should be the same as well, I think only the 292 I6s had an oddball mount in the trucks.

Bellhousing bolt pattern is different on the 250 compared to the 235. The trans can work if you just get a correct bellhousing - one that is same as used by SBC or BBC. You also need a bellhousing with the proper front bearing retainer hole size. Generally trucks used the larger diam, cars used smaller diam. Not sure what size your trans has.

  4. The 235 trans will bolt up to a later style gm bell housing
The 235 bell housing will not bolt up to the 250 engine
A 55 to 72ish v8 or 63-72ish I6 truck bell housing will work as a direct bolt in.(depending on clutch type)
the cast iron one with the ch***is mounts
An aluminum v8 or I6 (not a 235) will work but will need a trans tail shaft mount added as these do not have ch***is mounts cast in however your stock 3speed may lack the required tail shaft mount needed.
I would use one for a 3 speed, the truck 4 speed usually has a larger diameter hub

    Clear as mud

may require an older style 3 bolt starter.
Some of the other guys hers can verify

  6. My 61 Chevy truck had a hydraulic clutch.
    This changes a few things.
you would need a hydraulic bell housing or fabricate a mount to move the slave cyl or mechanical clutch pedals from a donor truck

yup, need the hard to find 60-62 bellhousing for the V8 and hydraulic clutch. The slave cylinder is on the p*** side, as shown.

Also you'll need to deal with the motor mounts being different, and a few other things.

  9. We got around the hydraulic issue by moving the OE slave over to the drivers side

The front 235 engine mount won’t work. Either 63-66 6cyl mounts or fab some

Pretty sure I have one of the hydraulic clutch bellhousings I don’t need, but need to verify that it is for a V8. If your location isn’t too far away, maybe it would work for you.

    Where are you located?

I also have a bellhousing, flywheel, and starter, with a driver's side fork. I know what slave cylinder can be used to make this a smooth installation.

This Iron bell would require a mod to put this cylinder on, but I can do that, too.

Anthony, I like how simple that is. It might be my best bet, the engine comes with a Saginaw 3 speed so I might luck out with the bell housing.
I am yet to see what I’ll be working with.

Thanks to everyone with their knowledge and suggestions, I will be continuing to update and post pics to the thread as I work it out.

gimpy I live in crossville al, I may get back to you about all those parts once I’ve figured out what I’m working with.
