    [IMG] C4 automatic question
<hr style="color: rgb(229, 229, 229); background-color: rgb(229, 229, 229);" size="1"> I just rebuilt the C4 in my buddies 1950 F-47 pick up. It has a 351 Cleveland in front of it out of a 70 Mustang. I have to assume the trans is the same. I did not remove this trans from the truck, the trans arrived on my bench. Along with the rebuild kit, a new torque converter and flex plate were installed. The torque is fully flopped into the pump. When the bellhousing is bolted to the block the motor will not turn over. Crack the bolts loose and it frees up. I have pulled the trans partially out of the truck to confirm that the torque converter is in the right spot and what measurements I get on the torque and flexplate mounting points. There appears to be 1/8 - 3/8 interference between the two. Meaning that the torque is too close to the flexplate. Any ideas as to why? I am not a Ford guy enough to know if there were different depth flexplates or torque converters. We did compare the flexplates and they appear the same. Is it possible that the torque is too fat? I don't have the old one to compare. Any Blue Oval types ever run across this?:eek::confused:

  2. is it possible the flexplate is bolted on backwards?

Fords usually have a shim plate between the motor and trans. was that put back on?
