I purchased a C4 tranny from a guy who built it. The car shifts great from 1 to 2 it shift solid. 2 to 3 there is a "flash" or hesitation before it engages into 3rd. I'm told that the bad needs adjusted. Where exactly is the adjustment for tightening up the 2-3 band. As in what side of the tranny. I have not crawled under the car yet. Thanks in advance.
The 2-3 shift is not done with a band. It uses clutches for 3rd gear. There is only a band for intermediate (2nd) and one For low and reverse. A extremely loose int. band could cause the trans to flair up or neutral out between 2nd and 3rd but is not very likley. Does the trans shift at the correct speeds, like at 20 and 30 mph or so or is it real early? Make sure the trans has manifold vacuum to the modulator, not ported vacuum. One other cause that we have run into on C-4s to make them not shift right is the use of an offshore vacuum modulator, or the incorrect one. Make sure the modulator is USA made. If the trans has a push in modulator use the yellow stripe and if its a screw in use the white stripe. Generally, the adjustment pin in both modulators should be screwed in about two turns from where is was at new. Bill
Do an internet search for "C4 2-3 shift flare". You'll find a lot of info on Mustang and Ford forums. I installed a Transgo kit and am very happy with it.
