Trying to work out the bugs on a recently purchased '53 ford. It has a C4 tranny 3 speed auto out of an early 70's torino. I am having two problems. the first isunless I manually shift through the gear with the ratchet shifter, it really doesn't shift. It feels like one gear. The other prblem is once I get it up to speed while just depressing the gas pedal enough to cruise at a steady speed it makes a winding sound. If I increase my speed it goes away . Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be ?

Is the vacume line from the intake hooked to the modulator on the transmission?

Or maybe the modulator is bad or out of adjustment. (they are pretty easy to adjust/replace).

    Check the shift pattern, early 60's C-4s had a P R 2 D 1 pattern.
The trans. might be older than the car!
