I am about to drop the engine and trans in my galaxie and was wondering what type best fit? The one that was in it did not bolt the the case and hit the firewall. I'm looking at either a flexible one or a chrome one. The chrome one does not specify car or engine.

the flexible ones have a small hole so it will take about 6 months to fill the trans.

the chrome ones arent the best quality either. I take a good locking style dipstick and add any number of bends to get it to clear whatever is in the way.

Does either of them need to be bent much? Or is it easier to get a knockoff flexible one and deal with the slow filling?

thats up to you, I took the lokar off the last project and put a bunch of bends in a new metal one just so I wouldnt have to deal with filling a new trans thru the flexible one.

It may be a pain in the ass to get a metal one to fit but you'll only have to do it once, if you go with a flexible one you'll have to deal with a slow fill for the rest of the time you own the car. It takes about 10 minutes a quart to fill with flixable one.

as for how much bend, I'm not much help there without having the car in front of me.

I second the suggestion to do whatever it takes to use a stock one. Since the C6 was not introduced until 1966, you probably won't find a stock one that fits perfect, but look around at a junkyard or transmission shop, maybe you can find one that fits better. The transmission was used in most larger Ford cars and trucks for about two decades.
