Hey just got my '59 Edsel villager on the road again. But I think the old Crus-O is toast. I have a C-6 out of a '71 that was up against a 390. looks like everything would work fine , but has anyone had any experience with this? Was also thinking about a AOD or 700r4..... Opinions???

shouldn't have any problems bolting it up. check the flex plate, the torque converter pilot o.d. and the crankshaft pilot i.d. kick down lever is from the carburetor

The C6 is a direct bolt up. You might have to mod the trans mount some, depending on what the C6 came out of.

Either the AOD or 700R4 will require an adaptor (additional $800), but you will get overdrive and a serious boost in fuel economy. This may be something to consider since FE's are known for passing everything but gas stations.

Think I might put the c-6 in for now and get it back on the road..... then this winter get the adapter ( I have found 2 companies on the web) and go for the 700r4.
    Thanks for you guy's input

You say the trans is out of a 71 but what model, the truck trans might have a very short tailshaft and not made for a slip yoke. If its out of a car then you will be ok but you will need the 65 and newer flywheel and starter.

I have the flexplate and starter with it. Kinda thought I would have to do that.... I do have to get a new driveline made though. The tail shaft on the Edsel is very long. thanks
