C6 to AOD swap

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sidevalve8ba, Apr 22, 2013.

  1. I am seriously considering swapping out my C6 for an AOD on my Model A. I have a question about the differences in the lengths of these transmissions. I am not so much concerned about overall length as I am the length from the block mating surface to the trans mount pad. Is there a big difference? :confused:

    C6 = 20"
    aod = 20-3/16"

    Not sure about the length youre referring to. I swapped to a aod from c6 when I swapped motors in my truck. Trans mount came foreward a bit, and i had to lengthen the driveshaft about 3 inches and change tail shafts.

  4. So overall the AOD is shorter than a C6?

    Your concern was bellhousing to mount, right? AOD (not AODE) is 3/16 longer than C6.

  6. Thanks for the information. Sounds like I may be able to get by with just altering the transmission mounting pad holes and not have to move/alter the crossmember.

    The block to mount length is about the same as a C6; the overall transmission length is about the same as a C4.

    I have PHOENIX Transmission Products Chart before me. The dimensions are:

    C-4 Overall length 30-3/4" Face-to-mount distance 20-3/4"
    C-6 Overall length 33-1/2" Face-to-mount distance 22-3/8"
    AOD Overall length 30-3/4" Face-to-mount distance 22-3/8"

  9. Wow, thanks so much. That's just the info I need. :D
