i finally got around to replacing the wood in the roof of my 30/31 closed cab pu.. it was long over due, the wood was totally wasted.. the result was a cab that shook like jello.. especially when on the hi-way... well when i removed the old wood to my surprise i found out that (with the help of the guys at the FORD bARN) i have a 68b cowl.. or at least the header rail.. it appears the that A pillars had some work done, there is some lead that looks to be the same depth as what a ccpu header rail should look like... the visor was braised to the A pillar with a bead about 3/4" long... the truck as far as i know has always been a ccpu, as all of the sub rails wear riveted together with original rivets... i have the title from 1963, and it was a pick up then... the serial #'s on the frame say it was produced in late november of 31.. the truck came with a wide bed, yet the firewall was the earlier type.. i realize that the body could have been changed somewhere along the way... i already cut off the roof locators .. and it's way too late to change out the cowl- and it looks like i'll be able to modify the header i have to make it all work. has anyone come across this?? do you think this was done from the factory, or at a later date by someone else?? here are some pics..
