I'm looking into putting an S-10 5 speed behind my 1955 Caddy 331 and have heard so many differnt things. I was hoping that there is just an adapter I could buy, any insite would be great like year trans to buy or companies to buy adapters from or reviews buy some guys that have installed similar set ups.

Its going in a 30 Model A I just picked up. I'm going to start a thread for it as soon as I get all of my suspension and drive line components..(no sense posting pics of a shell)

Don't mean to depress you, but you'd have better luck finding an adapter for what you want to do for a '49-'54 331 than for your '55 engine. 1955 is the first year of the block change, and there are many more adapters for the early engines floating around, since they also fit '49-'64 Oldsmobile blocks.

Wilcap sell adaptors to put a chevy automatic or manual behind 365 and 390s. I think, not positive, that you block may be the the same as those engines. I believe this is what heathen was getting at. they are pricey though. I used one on my model A with a 390 to mate it to a chevy four speed. it worked ok

I've heard that about the 55 motor but I think I'm stuck with it.

  8. If I remember right the Cad Hydro that came with the engine was the one to have. Guys used to use the Chevy truck bell housing (from the trucks that used an automatic) and run them behind small blocks for racing. They are probably expensive to build today. If I didn't remember right it was the hydro from a couple of years earlier (it's great to get old).
