Hey I was wondering if anyone who has coverted the old cady/olds batwing air cleaner from oil bath to take regular air filters how did you do it? Or should I say the easiest way to do it. What size filter all the info. I got a plan but want to see if anyones got an easier one. I just got a 55 olds 2 dr hardtop to play with after a drunk totaled my 59 buick.spent all my $$$ on it so cheaper the plan the better.
I got an aftermarket 4 barrel base , got lucky i guess it mated w/ the top portion nice .Went into the local checker auto and started fitting air filters til i found the right one .The inner oil bath portion sold on e-bay for over 100 bucks .wing nut and done . I picked up the base for 1$ at a swap meet . the caddy cleaner was a bit more though .
I used an aftermarket 10" aircleaner base with two 10" airfilters stacked then the 55 caddy top on em.It worked really good......Shiny
I have been going this this. I bought a K&N filter that was 12.5 diamter and about 4.5 in tall. I plan to take an old swap meet aircleaner base (14") and use it. I am going to cut a 12.5 diameter piece of plywood and use it as a buck to tap the old aircleaner base around it. I will then trim the excess off to leave a nice thin 1/8 to 1/4 lip to hold it.
My brother used the dropped base from a 14" generic chrome air cleaner with K&N universal air filter # E-3699 . It fit perfectly inside his 52 olds air cleaner, just slid right in.
the 3699 was my preference but it had to be ordered so I went with the other. I have thought about returning the one I got and just waiting for the one you mentioned..
Thanks a lot guys I had been messing with my generic base but the stock air filter wouldnt fit I was tempted to bust out the cut off wheel. the thing dosent have a dent on it but a little surface rust. Now all I have to do is find another rubber seal for the top of my sand blaster and I'm in buissness.

I tossed the Kit filter..., installed the base from the kit and used the K&N filter! Everything looks right, lines up well and offers protection to the engine with a washable Million mile filter!! I can pm you the numbers later if you want! Mark
