Technical Caddy Lifter disassembly

    From a '40 Flathead, thought I would clean these up as they look great.
    From the inventors of the Hydraulic lifter...
    Good learning project too.
    Has anyone done this? Does the cup & ball come out if present?

    I did that 7 years ago...but my memory only lasts about two weeks.

    I did not take any pictures of the lifters apart. But I recall that I did take them all apart...

    Couldn't read all the fine details on my phone. But wasn't there some reason that you weren't supposed to mix the internal parts between one lifter and another?

    The parts with critical dimensions are select fit when the lifters are made. The oil clearance between the plunger and bore is critical.

    As for removing the ball...if you can't gently push it out with a small rod from the bottom, it would be best just to clean it as well as you can and put it back together. Perhaps several blasts of carb cleaner then compressed air, till nothing yucky comes out?

    Yes Squirrel, They wont just push out so I will clean up best I can.
