I got me a original Caddy/ Olds aircleaner and was wonder what size filter are you using . A standard 14 inch K&N is just a tad to big and I really do not want to trim the underside of the aircleaner. So what are you using...

Mine fit a standard hot rod air cleaner. I didn't measure it but it probably was a 14"er. It was on the carb. It was too easy.

Thats a good question. I have one of those old housings also but I havent looked for a filter yet.

I think that a Fram CA-136 might fit, but I havent checked yet.

I sold one to Twisted Okie here on the board and I believe he told me he had to trim it just a bit. You might PM or email him.

I used an K&N filter that was originally for a Mercedes. It was a few years ago, so I don't have the part number. I looked in the back of the K&N filter catalog and found one with the right dimensions - it is approximately 11" x 3 1/2".

The element sits on a cut down 14" air cleaner base that was reshaped to fit the smaller element using a wooden hammerform.

I can take an exact measurement or some pictures if you want.

Use a bottom housing from any older vehicle thats smaller then 14. The fords 13" works. I used the bottom from the 64 buick and cut the edge and added smaller diameter filter, works great. That way the air comes from underneather and gives more air flow for larger engines. Don't cut the caddy top, there is no reason to. Satin

you are all saying what I thought,, just take a cheap 14" base and reform it to a smaller diameter. the 13" ford may be right, now I have to look thru shelves for something that will fit. I do not want to trim. I have a 14" K&N on the wagon now and it will not fit,

    thanks for your input...

  8. Boones - I did cut out the bottom of my air cleaner top just enough to let a 14" filter clear. I used a 4" tall K&N filter and sat it on the bottom part of a chrome 14" aftermarket air cleaner. You only have to trim a tiny amount to clear both the filter and the the bottom piece. This way it covers 99.9% of the 4" filter and sits on the carb like it should. Hope that helps. - Terry

  9. I use the base off old aftermarket cleaners that I get from swap meets and a Fram filter #CA3492 and you don't have to cut anything.

I used a 10" filter with a 14" base. I also ran a piece of thin ( 1/4 inch) door weather stripping ( the grey stuff that comes in a bag at any home depot or Pepboys ) around the top & bottom of the element to hold it in place. Works fine for me.

Use a standard cheap base that sit uner the way it should. K&N # E-3699 aircleaner will fit right in with no trimming to the lid. It is like 13 7/8 x 4. Works great just did one a couple weeks ago.
