    Hi All,
Has anyone installed a 390 Caddy in a 50 Ford Shoebox? I have an adapter to a Ford Trans but oil pan looks that it could be a problem. Front cross-member has already been cut down to fit a Ford 429 but thinking steering linkage could be a sticking point.

    Thanks, Steve

The fix 50 years ago was a dropped tie rod.
    Someone will provide a photo.

I saw one in a shoebox once . The bottom radiator hose was run through the frame to the radiator . Be sure to check the radiator hose placement .

A Cadillac in a shoe box, that’s a cool cl***ic combination. Motor mounts and dropped tie rods were readily available back in the old days. I’m not sure if anyone makes them now but you could always do your own. I had to do one for my Stude pickup with a Pontiac. I split the difference, dropped the tie rod some and modified the oil pan a little. I used a piece of a sway bar with the same diameter as the transfer bar and made a quick fixture to hold the ends in the correct relationship. If you don’t feel comfortable welding it, take it to a professional welder.

Frick Motors used to build them for customers. Called them Fordillacs.

  6. Early caddy in a shoebox was common enough that when AMT released their 1/25 scale 49 Ford model kit in 1962 it included a three deuce caddy engine option
