Cadillac 390 Motor Question

Hi Everybody! I have got some of my questions answered on Cadillac 390's by going through the forums,but I couldn't find a thread that shows how to ID them. I am going to take a look at one today. The guy knows that its a 390 but he isn't sure what year it is and I don't want to bring home a 63 and have trouble finding parts. Thanks for your time.

 

if it has a oil canister on top its a 59 390, spin on could be 1960 on up. a 63 390 is a completely different looking engine then the early ones. the 63 has the distributor up front as where the 62 and down have it at the back. if you do a google search you can see the difference on how they look, that may help you ...................john

 

the oil filter location and dist. location are the tell tale signs like he said
